Maison Hullibargers father tells the Detroit Free Press that he asked the priest to stop talking during the Dec. 8 funeral Mass. But Jeff Hullibarger says the Rev. Don LaCuesta continued giving a critical sermon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Temperance.
Hullibarger says some mourners left the church crying.
The archdiocese released a statement Thursday saying its sorry that an unbearable situation was made even more difficult. The archdiocese says LaCuesta will not preach at funerals for the foreseeable future.

I go to a small church, a conservative Southern Baptist fundamentalist (personally, I just consider myself Christian) and we’ve had 4 families impacted by suicide over the last few years.
Our minister seems to be drifting to saying if those that committed suicide were Christians, they are now in Heaven. Some of these families are the biggest contributors to the church.
He actually started using Samson as an example of how someone could commit suicide and still go to Heaven. I don’t like the example because Samson died trying to do God’s will. I think very highly of our minister but I believe he needs to stay away from commenting on the subject. His views may have changed but he doesn’t know.
I certainly don’t have all the answers but I don’t believe committing suicide shows much trust/faith in God. And are they living for God?
Yes. I know some people have mental illnesses. I guess we just have to trust in the Lord.
<<<From what I’ve seen from Roman Catholic posts on this topic it isn’t considered adultery if the couple isn’t have sex.
Jesus teaches that the Marriage bond ends at death. (Luke 20:23-33)
I have seen some Roman Catholics take the position that even then you cannot remarry without it being adultery.<<<<
That is not the Catholic teaching. If someone posted otherwise they needed to cite it properly: See below.

Canon law states:
CAN. 1055 §1. The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring, has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament between the baptized.
Code of Canon Law: New English Translation (Washington, DC 1998) 335.
Paul in 1 Timothy 5:11 explicitly acknowledges remarriage among widows. It is the natural extension of Jesus Teaching in Luke’s Gospel.
A number of canonized saints at some point of their lives were under anathemas or excommunication, including St. Joan of Arc, St. Mary McKillop, St. Hildegard of Bingen, St. Athanasius, and if I recall correctly, St. John of the Cross (Juan de la Cruz).
I am sorry to say it, but you know so very little about "Rome" which you say "does it all the time (damn people) with their anathemas."
You really ought not to venture your wince-worthy words of wisdom about what "Rome" does or does not believe.
Tell uS what you believe. You ought to be an expert on that,
But for the 348th time, do not tell us --- CATHOLICS --- what we believe.
It is just tedious.
Thank you.
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord!' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the person who does the will of My Father in Heaven." Matthew 7:21
I WOULDN'T WANT TO TRY TO IMPROVE ON JESUS' WORDS.
Tell that to all of the non-Roman Catholics who have been told exactly that over the years.
Tell that to a Roman Catholic who may not agree with everything Rome teaches.
I am sorry to say it, but you know so very little about "Rome" which you say "does it all the time (damn people) with their anathemas."
You're saying to those of us who reject the following that we're not "damned" forever....in Roman Catholicism though not Christianity?
Furthermore, we declare, we proclaim, we define that it is absolutely necessary for salvation that every human creature be subject to the Roman Pontiff.
Not even Roman Catholics, I think you included, agree with this statement from the pope.
You really ought not to venture your wince-worthy words of wisdom about what "Rome" does or does not believe.
Tell me if I am wrong about Unam Sanctam....not the revisionist history but what the pope was claiming.
Tell me if I don't believe the false marian dogmas that Roman Catholicism doesn't "damn" me.
You argue from the false position that only a Roman Catholic can declare what they believe. That is patently false. Any apologetic must first understand the position of the other side.
You don't like what I say about Roman Catholicism because I compare what Rome says and what Scripture says to illustrate the vast gulf between the two.
Roman Catholics don't like when I do this. I can understand why.
It sheds the light of Truth on Rome's false dogmas.
You again argue from a Roman Catholic perspective...not a New Testament perspective.
Perhaps this is why Roman Catholics worship Mary and place their hope and trust in her that she'll put in a good word with Jesus that the Roman Catholic will be allowed into Heaven. Rome's own writings declare "whatever she asks, she obtains."
That is in contradiction of the New Testament.
I WOULDN'T WANT TO TRY TO IMPROVE ON JESUS' WORDS.
Yet Rome has rejected His words.
Roman Catholic writers say we have to go through Mary to have salvation.
The New Testament says otherwise:
6Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6 NASB
There is no allowance anywhere in the New Testament for having to go through Mary for anything.
Where can it be defined as self murder?
You’re giving me an application of a principle that you believe valid, but not backing it up Scrioturally.
But there is room for the priest to deliver a homily expressing his thoughts on the occasion.
Nor does the Funeral Mass belong to the parents.
The problem in this case may be that the priest thought the event belonged to himself.
I have no idea what you don't understand.
Suicide is still the killing of a human being.
If you kill yourself THAT is still murder.
And THAT is in the Ten Commandments and THAT is in the Bible which is considered Scripture.
Not a scripture fan; eh?
wince-worthy words of wisdom
Actually, ANYONE can; if they cared a little bit:
Jesus has commanded us to judge!
"Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world?... And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?... Do you not know that we shall judge angels?... How much more, things that pertain to this life?.. If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life, do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge ? (1 Corinthians 6:1-5).
Many commands of God require the exercise of righteous judgment.
"But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us" (2 Thessalonians 3:6).
"And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother" (2 Thessalonians 3:14,15).
"Teach and exhort these things. If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wrangling of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself" (2 Timothy 6:2b-5).
"Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple" (Romans 16:17,18).
All these commands require the careful exercise of righteousness judgment. Do not be deceived by smooth words and flattering speech. Beware of wolves who come to you with a sheep's skin.
We must be careful not to make unqualified judgments. But we must judge appropriately when commanded to do so.
"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." (John 7:24).
I got peach tea waiting for me! Bye!
Or as “Rome” says, “Peach be with you!”

Ok then; do you 'believe' that the following is STILL in effect?
"One indeed is the universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved, in which the priest himself is the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, whose body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the species of bread and wine; the bread (changed) into His body by the divine power of transubstantiation, and the wine into the blood, so that to accomplish the mystery of unity we ourselves receive from His (nature) what He Himself received from ours."
--Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV (A.D. 1215)
It must be that SCRIPTURE is spam.
I’ve got Lentil soup on the stove!
You'd make a poor kamakazi pilot recruiter!
We Prots think it's to late.
You Catholics can go right on ahead though.
How did he stay alive until the funeral? How did they convene a funeral for an alive person?
Also, when someone commits suicide at a funeral, isnt there enough sorrow without a priest trying to get some attention?
