Surveillance video inside a Canoga Park doughnut shop captured the moment a woman threw hot coffee into the owner's face.

You are a ‘mark’.
About 15 yrs ago, a woman approached me in downtown Akron and ask for money for her lunch, and I gave her $1. She told me that wasn’t enough she needed at least 5 for a lunch and she hadn’t eaten in a while. I told her to get a box of pop corn for 50 cents which I have done when low on money. Thank God she left me alone. I will never do it again.
Since I never carry cash, it’s not a problem for me.
At least when I tell the bums that I don’t have any money, I’m not lying.
No! Say it ain't so!
You are weakening my faith in the goodness of humanity! Please stop it!
Regards,
Also many make a living at begging who aren’t homeless at all.
Those are among the con artists. The put on their raggedy clothes and go out to beg, then return to their late-model cars around the corner to return home after collecting a few C-notes.
Unrepentant drunks and charlatans were undeserving and left to their own devices. Widows and children and others victimized through no fault of their own were sought out and offered serious assistance.
It was a system that worked to a great extent. It was destroyed by the Progressive Era of Teddy Roosevelt and the creation of a new profession: a bunch of trained busybodies known as social workers whose sole purpose was to replace private charity with government controlled handouts. We all can see the results of this miscarriage of judgment even today.
You’re right.
I also know as a Christian, that God loves this guy just as much as He loves me. So who am I to sit in judgment when I can do something for him at so little cost to myself.
We watched a begger fold up his sign, walk away from his primo spot at the entrance to a Walmart, get in his brand new SUV and drive off.
Pretty good scam. Driving a better car than I can afford.
Not much different than the UnitedWay execs using a private plane to get to their convention. PFFT!
I responded to “homeless people” for 25 years. About 70% of them are substance abusers, or people with mental problems. Both of these categories can be unpredictable and dangerous. Most of the rest are scam artists.
That’s a lovely, Christ-like sentiment; but the philosophical question remains, what does he do with the money? (I’m not being sarcastic or mocking -— it’s a sincere question.) If you gave him a sandwich and a bottle of water, or a new pair of socks, would that be more helpful, assuming he really is in need? Whatever the answer, it’s true that many people will come to the Lord, due to the kindness of one who shows Christ’s love to them.
I can think of an area near Chico, CA that could probably use a bunch of folks to help clean up after the recent fires there.
It’s either that or drive by the local Home Depot and get a few day laborers, as long as you speak Spanish.
This past summer, I had a skinny teenager approach me while I was putting groceries in the car. He said he had nothing to eat and was hungry. I told him I’d just purchased cold cuts and could make him a sandwich. He said, “No I want a Burger King,” and walked away.
A couple of nights ago, one hit me up for a short ride.
Clean cut and otherwise normal looking but had a bizarre reason and gave too many personal details up front that sounded odd.
I declined.
I’ve seen one guy that looked in good shape begging at a McDonald’s.
I have never begged, even at my lowest times. There were a few of those. I found a way back to life each time.
Like I say with people who complain in Chicago - “Keep voting Democrat!”
I have a business on the main boulevard through town and see dozens of bums a day. When asked if I have some money, I always say “Yes, but there’s no free money here.”
They mostly move on. A few of them are motivated enough to ask if I have any work for them to do. They get a chance to work for an hour, maybe more.
No. I make a conscious decision to err on the side of compassion.
I don’t say this system is for everyone
Probably but I choose to help those I can. If they are running a scam, that’s on them, not me. God will judge us all in the end
