Saga Vanecek found the relic in the Vidöstern lake while at her family's holiday home in Jönköping County.
The sword was initially reported to be 1,000 years old, but experts at the local museum now believe it may date to around 1,500 years ago.

Without reading down thread, I just know there will be a Monty Python reference offered up.
I was thinking the same thing. Personal items, and weapons were thrown into fens, bogs, ponds, lakes, etc. as offerings. Could be more stuff in the lake.
The Swedish police detective in the series Bron/Broen (The Bridge) is Saga Norén. They pronounce her name Say-ga.
How did she become queen ‘en?
I didn’ vote for ‘er!
:^) Pretty great find, regardless, but a big-assed sword, and she's only 8! Took some pulling, and it probably ain't warm this time of the year.

I was reading about a nutrino detector site in Japan. They use ultra pure water. Ocassionally, guys in a raft have to float out into a tank to do maintenance on things. One worker dropped a tool in the water a few years back.
A scheduled cleaning of the tank required it to be drained. They found that the tool that had dropped previously, had completely dissolved. Apparently, even dipping your hand in the water for any length of time is considered unwise.
Water: the universal solvent.

He sure was.
Love that movie.
Excalibur was the first movie I bought on VHS when I got a recorder/player and the first DVD when I got a DVD player.
I could watch it every week and not get weary of it.
I even bought the soundtrack and have it on my iPods.
Boorman unified the mood of every scene by placing colored gels on the lighting, which becomes really obvious when you know to look for it.
He did the same with The Emerald Forest.
And Nicol Williamson was the best Merlin, ever.

So... she’s the Queen now?
or what..?
You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just ‘cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!
I mean, if I went around saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d put me away!
Then what do they keep it in?
Apparently, I’m one of a few, that had forgotten, the ‘watery Tart ‘.
Make her the Queen and fit her out with armor!
