In the summer of 1862, just weeks before the Battle of Sharpsburg (or Antietam) — the bloodiest single day of fighting in American history — Union Captain George Armstrong Custer attended the wedding of Confederate Captain John “Gimlet” Lea at Bassett Hall in Williamsburg, Virginia, as best man. The Union officer was dressed in blue, the Confederate officer in grey, and Custer being Custer spent the next two weeks flirting with the Southern belle cousin of the bride, even joining her in singing “Dixie.”
At one point she told him, “You ought to be in our army.”
“What would you give me if I resigned my commission in the Northern army and joined the Southern?”
“You are not in earnest, are you?”
He wasn’t, of course. Custer was nothing if not loyal, and he believed that he was bound to the Union by the oath he had sworn at West Point, whatever his affection for Southern officers and their ladies.
Such gallantry seems unthinkable today, when members of the Trump administration are hounded from restaurants and theatres, and Confederate officers like John Lea, if they are remembered at all, are considered precursors of the German National Socialists, and their once famous and respected commanders like Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jeb Stuart have their statues toppled and banished from public squares, their names stripped from public schools, and their memories spat upon and disgraced.

“The reason is racial demographics and obesity.”
Not only that, but our poorest people are the MOST likely to be obese! We have the fattest most entertained poor people in the history of the earth, it’s hard for me to imagine widespread sustained civil unrest while these conditions persist. The poorest people sure weren’t the fattest during the Civil War.
Also, the number of eligible voters that have chosen not to vote have outnumbered any single political party for 100+ years. If things were so bad, I would figure more would deign to vote about it before they take to the streets. The folks that care about politics tend to vastly overestimate the number of people who care about it like they do.
Freegards
Thats the point made by Crain Britton in The Anatomy of a Revolution (1938). A civil war happens only when the middle class becomes radicalized. The Iranian revolution occurred not because students marched under the banner of the ayatollah, but because the shopkeepers in Tehran joined them in opposing the Shah. Gas stations and supermarkets empty because trucks cannot buy fuel on credit to supply them following even a temporary collapse of the banking system would produce the same result here. People who have never contemplated hunger before will lose confidence in all levels of government, state, local, and federal.
Their side wants our side dead. I'm not sure what would convince them that lightening the mood down to mere beating and torture would be sufficient. :)
General Washington kind of did that.
Thank you for your comforting words. I too would like to see these trends reverse themselves, but it unfortunately is very unlikely. The number of white women of child bearing age in this country has already declined greatly from 1980. The current attitudes and belief systems that this group of younger women are embracing make it very unlikely that their fertility rate will be increasing any time soon.
And it is not just the women; young men in our society can get all the porn and all the sex that they desire without marrying and starting a family. Young white men do not want the responsibility and sacrifice required. Many would prefer to just live in their parent's home for years after they graduate from school. Few even know how to work on their own car these days. And foreign immigrants dominate most of the trades these days.
We have numerous veterans and numerous current members of the military in our immediate family. We are very proud of those who are currently serving. Less than 25% of the young people in this country can now even qualify to join any branch of our military. Speculation by old fat armchair warriors who own a few or even an arsenal of firearms about who would win the next “civil war” may be fun, but is ultimately completely meaningless.
Most of us here are “baby boomers” and it is our generation which could have reversed the current trend. But we got lost in a morass of self-serving nonsense. The current issues that we face can be deservedly blamed on us. We have been given a temporary reprieve delivered to us by President Donald Trump. But look at the fight he has to put up with for every incremental victory. Hopefully some of the changes that President Trump makes will alter our future course and instead of angering in we will have a smoother landing, but the current trends still do not bode well for the country. It is mostly a result of all of the unintended consequences of leftist ideology and the permanent damage they have done.
"I do not see how this can happen in our current society. Sure a few hotheads here and there will maybe lynch some leftists, and sure there will be some self-defense incidents, but that is not civil war and it will not make any real difference."
"I would not underestimate the Left on this issue. History shows they will be ruthless in their goal. They do not play by our rules nor have our morality."
Yep, true patriots will have a very moral issue with taking up arms against other Americans without some authoritative and powerful figure leading them. The left on the other hand has displayed often and rather impressively that they are true brainless useful idiot social justice warriors that will riot in the street on a moments notice when word comes down the "Organizing for America" [Obama] or the "Center for American Progress" [Soros] hotline.
I have added my name and email to their lists in an attempt to 'get on the inside' but they must seriously research your social media profile and will not add you if you're conservative bc, of all the mountains of spam I get, no matter how many times I add my email address, I've yet to receive a single email. How unusual is that.
Peace follows absolute victory.
You are taking the threat seriously, and doing exactly what someone would do who takes the threat seriously.
You are attempting to acquire enemy intel.
Bless you and your efforts.
The CW 2 battlefield.
What? Do you think the governor would not protect important infrastructure? How many leftist/crazies do you think there are in NE? Omaha is 75% white and I'll bet 50% moderate/conservative. Maybe a small percent will have unrest but not the largest parts and the suburbs - certainly not. 1 or 2 days unrest, tops.
Of course to those of us who understand cause & effect, the consequences are totally predictable.
Yep! Like, over past centuries, you surround and cut off the castle/city from food and water supplies...Will save lots of ammo...Cities/castles like NYC would self-destruct in a couple of weeks...
Different. NO BATTLE LINES of any sort. No North vs South. War will be everywhere. There will hardly be any safe places.
Maybe battle lines eventually but that will require victories and successful migrations.
Of course it's not just the Left poisoning the well of national identity. There's quite a few GOPe ethnic cleansers in the Hate Confederate Memory cabal.
Modern cities are far less survivable than medieval cities. There are far too many people dependent upon the concentrated infrastructure cities need nowadays. The people are also less willing to tolerate discomfort than were medieval people.
+1
George Armstrong Custer was , without a doubt, one of the worst men ever to wear the uniform of an officer in the US Army. He was reckless, frequently insubordinate, cared little if anything for the welfare of his troops and was an open and notorious adulterer to the humiliation of his long suffering wife Libby. The disaster of The Battle Of The Little Big Horn was his crowning achievement. Had he survived , by any standard of that day, and by today’s standards he’d have been court-martialed.
Thank you for the excellent link.
I lived in LA county during the Rodney King riots. We were a couple miles from the curfew zone, and could see the smoke pyres from the burning buildings. That Saturday we went to the beach in Orange county, maybe 20 miles from our house. Folks there had no idea what was going on just up the road from them. So I think you are very right.
