I read in another post with the same idea but cant seem to find it. The thought process was that Trumps nomination of Kavanaugh was a chess move.
I liken it to a baseball manager making a call to the bullpen to get the other teams manager to also make a move with a batter.
So, is Kavanaugh a decoy? Trumps knows what will happen with the Senate and will let it play out and then nominate who he really wants?
Just wondering what other Freepes think.
This guy is going to get confirmed.
The timing wasn’t right for Amy Coney Barrett. First we pick off several Senate seats to give us a better position then PDJT nominates Barrett when RBG retires.
Wait, THIS is the time they will be exposed???!?
They've been exposed since the 1920's.
Brett Kavanaugh’s Bush/Rove affiliation could never be forgotten by Trump. Put forth the rinos favorite pet goat for sacrifice, let Dems tear him to pieces publically(keeping dems busy with a bright shiny object-cat chasing a laser pointer). Dems will drag and brag this Borking through midterms. Trump will get midterm votes he needs and then he will put forth his real choice, maybe Amy Barrett. Trump plays the long game, always. It’s the Art of the Deal. Trump is the real deal mental Kung-Fu. IMO.
Nope. My expert on the courts, whom I call “Zen Master,” had Kavanaugh as #1 for a long time.
ZM hasn’t been wrong yet.
Almost no one asks; Who wants this job ? Would Barrett want to uproot her 7 kids from school at this stage ?...for DC ? Or put themselves through the ringer ?
Only if he beans everybody who comes to the plate.
I would bet he held off on Barrett in the belief that Republicans will pick up seats in November, and it will be easier to get her for the next opening.
In this era of the politics of personal destruction I would tend to agree with you. Still, a spot on the Supreme Court is the Hall of Fame for any lawyer. They're not going to turn down a chance lightly.
“Roughly 46.5% of Americans are Protestants, 20.8% are Catholics, 1.6% are Mormons” My main concern is that all three of those religions are historically for open immigration.
Yet, with Kavanaugh we get yet another catholic. The supposed next in line is Amy Barrett.
The court is 5 Catholic, 3 Jewish, and one raised and fully Catholic until he married a Brit and started going to her episcopal church (Gorsuch). So culturally, essentially the court is 6 catholics and 3 jewish.
Mormons are an even smaller of a population than Jewish is in America. They also have an very outsized footprint on our government. Flake, Lee, Romney, Hatch, Reid, Huntsman, Udall, Chaffetz, etc.
This is just an observation so save the stormfront invective. But how is this happening? Protestants are about half this nation and simply cannot seem to get onto the court. The small sects of religions are somehow accessing outsized power. The bottom line is that again, DC is far removed from a huge majority of Americans and laughs at their concerns as they work feverishly to keep the immigrant flood pouring in.
Just to summarize, Trump played his tactical Bush card. Yes, that GOP wing still exists, and given an honest power assessment by a master deal maker, Trump realized he had to make a concession.
Now, everyone can go about their business and literally phone the vote in when it comes to the floor: 54-45 Without any real grass roots opposition fireworks, the only only remaining issue is to limit the amount of material (aka fake denunciations) D political consultants can mine for Nov campaign materials.
Maybe look at the education system. Catholic schools are far superior to gov. schools. I would bet each of them went to a private catholic school.
Disagree. Believe Trump wants him and thinks he is the best, and has best chance for affirming.
Ruth Buzzie screwed the pooch by not retiring before Scalia’s “untimely” death. Now she sits frozen by her lack of clarity and judgment.
Yes it is troubling but what is the alternative?? Go for someone that at least two GOPers will vote against?

True. I have seen a lot of FReepers upset at Kavanaugh’s Bush connection.
But nothing can be done about that, can it? We certainly would not want a judge that was first appointed by either Clinton or Obama. And going back to the Reagan years is too too far.
>>>I think there was some kind of consideration, a quid pro quo, in play. Trump cut a deal with the GOP establishment for whatever reasons. Just my sense given the Kavanoughs background, work history, and especially the prominence of Edwin Meese at last nights announcement in the White House.<<<
My sense too.

She must be having some anxious days lately. And many more ahead of her. LOL
This is a no win for the Democrats.
The smart move would be to hold hearings and confirm as quickly as possible.
I would guess they plan on using the this to fire up their base but to what purpose? While they energize (their already overheated base) they are turning off many in the middle.
President Trump will get his justice on the court. May not be the first pick, but it will be his pick.
Maturity is knowing what battle to fight and which battle to walk away from. The left is showing their immaturity.
Why would you assume that?
John Bolton's affiliation with Bush/Rove didn't bother Trump. Mike Flynn's affiliation with Barack Obama didn't, either.
And to that extent here is a list of all current and past Supreme Court Justices who identify as an Evangelical Christian.

Gee, I wish they'd let one of us on the bus some day. Even sitting at the back of the bus would be OK. But I guess not.
