The accident happened on Highway 176 in Polk County while they were covering the impact of heavy rain in that area.
Video: Polk County authorities give update on accident Tryon Fire Chief Geoffrey Tennant said the engine of the SUV was running and the transmission was in drive when authorities arrived at the scene about 2:30 p.m.
He said the tree that fell on the SUV was about 3 feet in diameter and had stood back off the road.
Tennant said the ground was saturated and the tree's root system failed.

“WYFF News 4 anchor, photojournalist tragically die when tree falls on SUV”
Considering the utter hatred I have for so called “journalists”, I question the use of the word “tragically”. Sympathies to their families.
Eevil SUV murdered them.
Like Christine.
Play on that tree? You can raise a family of 5 on that tree!
Wait!
He got wood?
He was uprooted from life...
Going to be covering news in places where trees and poles can fall on you? Better bring something with a big, sturdy exocage and not a standard production stock SUV.
Example truck with exo cage: https://goo.gl/images/GyQZ3u
That is very sad. I often question whether it is good to have these TV people out in super bad weather. RIP.
hopefully this person died quickly, RIP
At least it’s a good start.
Local journalists generally report accuately. They hype, but are not the bad guys.
The national news people are propagandists.
It is a process of actor sifting. Local media want to play on the big stage. How well can they act/lie? Here, our local media try and out lie each other wanting a chance to be called up to the bigs. They are what I flush down my toilet.
RIP
Yesterday I asked my wife to call (she is the call person) and report a tree that has an issue. I gave her the tree number (in Berlin many trees have numbers) and street. Problem is one large branch rubs with another (like an X) with even a slight breeze. Which makes a noise and you can see the bark is worn off. It is a very large tree. I can take a picture when I walk the puppy. The person called was thankful. There is a kindergarten across the street.
If you see something say something.
I remember WYFF from college, Your Friend Four. Greenville, South Carolina.
Nice town, nice people, this is a local newscaster out covering the heavy rains north of town above the NC line. Humor is not warranted and these are not the MSM you’re looking for. They’re part of the community. Give it a break, this was tragic.
Photo 2: X marks the spot (a little off center to the right and down).
I am hoping they inspect this tree soon. If not I will get the wife to call again.
My child calls this tree, Lady Tree. I told her don’t go there.
Pure tragedy - probably felt safe and never heard the tree coming...I watched some fall out of the ground during hurricanes and it’s surreal.
Thanks for the ping prs.

So you could! (Or maybe 5 families!)
They need to collect the seeds from that Cypress and plant them in other places!
