Make of it what you will.
The Army does not give IQ test, they give the ASVAB which is an aptitude test. You might be able to estimate an IQ, but I doubt it would be accurate.
IQ measures an aspect of intelligence through testing. Guess what I am trying to say is there are very intelligent people/groups that would not do well with testing.
It’s a good thing your kids can’t get fetal alcohol exposure from the sperm donor. My kids would be dumb. I wonder about my boy sometimes but he is a boy.
Well, I guess that I’m smarter than the average bear.
I see what you did there.
As I’ve said before, ask not for whom the Bell Curve tolls.
In the very beginning I wish we had been smart enough to call out the leadership of certain groups when they began to lay the blame everywhere but on the individual. Not only the leadership but politicians, and the media when they put the blame elsewhere. Should have nipped that right in the bud.
The thing is now we have so many that have been told all of their life it is all some other group’s fault they are not successful. They have been told by their family, friends, church people, community leaders, politicians, and the media. It is no wonder they believe it. Even those that are themselves very successful believe some other group did their best to keep them down.
I know what you are saying but your relatives have not been told over and over they would be successful if not for “those” people over there.
I have no idea how to turn this around and get people to understand just how far personal responsibility will get you in life. Blaming others is not the key to success of any kind.
I was raised even if something truly is someone else’s fault that does not let you off the hook because you are still responsible to get past it somehow and still amount to something. That was really drilled into my head by my dad after I was divorced many years ago.
Some people are taught their lack of success is some other group’s fault, and they are not taught that they should deal with it and move on. Double whammy setting them up to fail.
He had a sandwich in his pocket!
I'll believe Japan, but I'm not sure that I buy China... 1.3 billion is a LOT of people, and the western half of the nation is very, very, very poor. Now, as a national cultural norm, they ALL know, deeply ingrained in their hearts, that education is one of the best paths for success... but 105, for 1.3 billion people, including hundreds of millions of destitute farmers? Not buying it.
Sorry, we have "Two Americas" today. Break those numbers down by black vs white, urban vs rural, or thug culture vs traditional culture, and tell me the number again.
Note the stark difference between Haiti and Dominican Republic. Even on a Google Earth map, the ground goes from brown to green, right along their border. That island has got to be an amazing source for all sorts of good comparative research papers.
I think it is reasonable to assume that Asians are generally predisposed to higher intelligence based on my experience.
However, the test score numbers are skewed because competition for limited slots in the higher education means that we are only seeing the test results of the higher functioning, more gifted members of their society.
Universal education where most educational resources and funding are distributed to the lowest performing members of society is a uniquely American phenomenon.
Italy's high IQ is proven out by Italians fighting back against the EU and unfettered immigration while the Frogs and Krauts fail to realize they are the frog in the pot.
Hong Kong (1st.) 108
USA (22nd.) 98

Ummmmmm. Take stats much?
That 105 is the Average IQ. In other words all the IQs of the people in the country added together then divided by number of people comes up with an AVERAGE.
Not that all the IQs are 105
Of course this data is extrapolated.... nevermind.
I believe that a nation's/region's standard of living is almost always a very good indicator of national/regional IQ.Take,again,China.I can accept that people of Chinese blood living in certain Western countries would have an average IQ just over 100.But having been to mainland China several times (including a few years ago) and having seen that the overwhelming majority of the people are living lives not much different than their ancestors of 1,000 years ago there's no way that mainland China's average IQ is over 100.
I suspect one factor in the Asian countries the difficulty of the written language — and of course the culture that goes with it.
I think another survey is needed to measure adaptability. Very important quality where I think Americans probably rank high.
Wow! Thanks for posting.
I agree on processing speed, but I contend that differential abstraction is too complex a skill for assessment by a single test. Education and other cultural factors weigh into the equation, in my opinion.
