An Erie school district has bought hundreds of new baseball bats and its not planning a massive expansion of any sports programs.
The Millcreek Township School District outside Erie distributed the miniature bats to 500 teachers last week as part of a training program on how to deal with school shooters, the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.
Superintendent William Hall says it cost the district around $1,800 to buy 600 16-inch baseball bats, including some that will be placed in offices and other common areas. Hall says the bats are to give teachers a chance to fight back as part of a procedure with the acronym TROJAN: Threat assessment; run; obstruct and barricade; join forces; attack; and never give up.] [snip]

But armed teachers stand no chance against someone with military grade fully semi-automatic assault rifles.
Easily wrapped with barbed wire, though still ineffective.
Let just admit defeat right now.
Liberals. Oy! *Rolleyes*
First its rocks, now bats, what’s next? These people are just trying to do anything except what is the right and logical thing to do. Arm the teachers and staff with firearms. It is proven and works well, haven’t had a school shooting in Israel since 1974 when they armed the teachers and staff. (Hint Hint)
Didn’t Cuban get in trouble for suggesting they do just that? I’m not a fan of the Mavericks so I don’t follow
I think they fined him.
Personally I don’t think a team should be rewarded for sucking.
That’s why I prefer soccer, if you suck, you get relegated.
Why not just give all the teachers signs to hold up that say, "Don't Shoot"?
What in the world are they going to do with these miniature baseball bats? Hit a crazed shooter with them?
How many chances do they get to hit the shooter? Will they have scorekeeper to track all the teachers' at-bats and batting averages?
Are they going to get training in the use of the bats? Who does the training? The baseball coaches or the cops?
When I was a kid, some of my teachers and the vice-principal had wooden paddles to give swats to kids who misbehaved. But they didn't have them to fight off armed gunmen.
Here's my solution. First, replace the "Guns-Free Zone" signs with ones that announce, "Teachers Are Locked and Loaded".
Next, buy all the teachers and main staff members, handguns.
This summer, send all the teachers to an intense gun use and safety program. Then send them to the range to practice, practice, practice.
When they return to classes in the fall, they will be ready to deal with any loony bin who tries to harm their kids.
Taking a bat to a gun fight has to be a Democrat idea. No one else could have come up with something that stupid.
why not hand out feathers? They can tickle the killers to death
The bat looks identical to the souvenir bats they used to give out on Pittsburgh Pirate Bat Day. I know a lot of people who still have them, specifically for self-defense.
But not against a gun.
At least rocks make more sense defensively than mini bats.
Years ago nearly every young boy in the country was handy with throwing axes.
They should just ask the kids in shop class to come up with something; when I was in school the kids in Shop class were always making Chinese throwing stars from bits of metal studded with nails.
No one ever got hurt, they were pretty safe about throwing them and making sure all was clear; but the darn things were stuck in ceiling and walls all over the school... some even penetrated cinderblock.

Pennsylvania school district arming teachers with baseball bats to combat active shooters
RIFFS!
Can you dig it?
Warriors come out to play
“Just don’t have any Texas Rangers pitchers throwing them, they’re sure to miss the target. “
Yes, the Strike Zone only counts in baseball, not with active shooters.
Better than getting wasted.
They could issue everyone two of them with enough cord to make nunchucks.
Still not going to be much use against a gun.
I’m afraid the teachers are going to look like the arab guy with the fancy scimitar moves in the Indiana Jones movie that Indy dispatched with his pistol.
