AUBURN, Calif. (CBS13) -- A California dad has been called a hero after knocking out a kidnapper to rescue his 3-year-old daughter.
Freddie Cantrell lives across the street from Regional Park in Auburn, California, where his two girls were playing with their mother and stepfather Sunday evening.
He said park is a place they used to love, but now is part of their biggest nightmare.
I got a phone call from the mother saying, Hey you got to get down here quick. Somebody tried to kidnap Aubrey,' Cantrell told CBS Sacramento.
The incident unfolded in front of their 6-year-old daughter, Natalie.
The guy walked up and started dragging Aubrey and running with her and skipping with her, Natalie said.
The 3-year-old's mom and stepfather ran after the suspect, and Cantrell ran towards them from the opposite side of the park.
He tried to swing at me with handcuffs wrapped around his fingers and try to use them as brass knuckles, and thats when I just took action and try to knock him out, Cantrell remembered.
Placer County authorities quickly arrived to the scene following the citizen's arrest and took 26-year-old Yonel Hernandez-Velasco into custody for attempted kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.
Many neighbors told CBS 13 they're grateful the man is out of their neighborhood.
If I saw that I would go after the person too because someones kid you know, said a man who lives nearby and walks his two dogs.
He had handcuffs? What a sick SOB. Too bad someone was not armed and finished him off. He would have deserved it. Heaven only knows what would have happened to that poor little girl.
Somebody has a grammar problem.
I’m not sure if its the family being quoted or the story author.
Yeah, but at least Pops didn’t give him a Cleveland Steamer!
Are the people involved glad that they live in a sanctuary state?
The head. Always stomp on the head.
Preferably a good curb stomp.
Praise be to God!!!
Something more permanent is clearly needed. He’ll probably be out on the street again before too long.
Curb job and say he fell
Break some mortar forking bones
Hang him from a tree for a pinata
If Yonel has family still living at his address, they all need to be encouraged to leave. Lock, stock, and barrel. And the sooner the better. Make it clear, they are not welcome, and need to find another address.
So the jail will just let him go so ICE doesn’t get him?
Bingo!
Is Auburn a sanctuary city,town..or is the county?....if so, the mayor should be called upon...
Clint!
Good thought, but you granted an inch I wouldnt have.
If this guy (the perp) accidentally died, Id somehow get over it.
The dems would give him food stamps instead.
Too bad someone wasnt armed?
Concealed carry question; lets say this was a CC state,he had his handcuffs/brass knuckles and he attacked me if I tried to stop him. Could I have shot him in self defense?
Question 2. If I was illegally CC in Kalifornia and I shot him to save the little girl and likely my own life, would I expect jail time by the crazy liberals?
