Clorox, the household name in the cleaning industry, recently released findings...
The studys first component consisted of an online survey of 2,000 American adults which found that those who enjoyed the act of cleaning were 25% happier that those who did not.
People who keep a clean home are not only happier, but more relaxed and focused than those who are messy, a new survey finds. Whats more: children in cleaner home study more and show greater empathy.
Furthermore, those who frequently spruced up the house didnt seem to experience diminishing returns: for each extra hour of cleaning a week, the average respondents happiness increased by 53%.
Regular cleaning was also associated with other positive health outcomes, including improved relaxation (indicated by 80% of respondents), heightened focus (77%), better sleep (72%), and increased productivity (72%), the researchers found.
Respondents who also happened to be parents were asked additional questions about how they believed their kids benefited from cleaning their room.
Nearly 60% of parents said their kids studied better when their room was clean, and about half (49%) indicated that their childs behavior saw marked improvement.
On a related note, teaching cleaning habits from a young age conferred great benefits: children who were assigned cleaning as a chore were 64% more likely to exhibit empathy, and 60% more willing to help others in their community as an adult.
Theres nothing more important to me as a dad than making sure my kids grow up to be kind and resilient adults and I think thats something that connects all parents, comments actor Sterling K. Brown, a celebrity spokesman for Clorox, in a press release.

I can’t say I usually enjoy it, but I occasionally do. And I have met more than one woman who enjoys cleaning.
Being happy is a choice.
My children are slobs yet I am a clean freak.
Yeah, this does NOT mean that those of who hate cleaning would be happier if we cleaned a lot. It only works for those for whom it works....
Fill your house with things that are awesome and you will be too!
That's me! LOL... and when the ice cube tray gives up perfect ice cubes on the first twist... oh my goodness, I almost have to sit down for a moment.
And she will tell you that she was saving it so you could have the joy. :)
I know why the ladies are happy. The ladies like Mister Clean.
There is a strong correlation with positive life outcomes and: high IQ, a high degree of conscientiousness.
Wanting to have your home in order and being industrious is conscientiousness. And that big 5 personality trait is correlated with having a stable family life, finances in order, not living on the desperate edge.
They’re mistaking correlation with cause.
That's my motto. Kitchen and bathroom should be sanitary in the business places, and there should not be clutter in all the main pathways, but slightly messy is okay with me. I wasn't always this way. People used to say "your house is immaculate" but I'm definitely happier with relaxed standards now that the family is grown.
For instance, if I have a three-day project in the yard, the tools get to live in the kitchen near the back door until I'm done. Once, I would have wrapped up the extension cord for the leaf blower and rinsed all the rakes, trowels and shovels and maybe oiled them and put them all back in the utility closet every night, only to haul them out again the next day. Now, I conserve my energy for things that matter, like posting on FR. -- LOL
How about people who enjoy not cleaning house and hiring others to do it for them. That makes me pretty happy.
I see what you did there...
LOL!
A couple years ago our refrigerator died.
The replacement has a water dispenser and an ice dispenser.
It’s been two years and I still feel like I’m living in the lap of luxury!
My Roomba is named Higgins, he does a fabulous job and I don’t get back spasms anymore.
Love Mr. Higgins!!
PEOPLE. Get a ROOMBA. They are great!
I cleaned the bathtub this morning with Clorox. It’s a great product and better than the damn toothbrush that the DI made me use in bootcamp.
If Clorox needs a testimonial to that fact, I will do so on a stack of Bibles.
Im so old that I remember when George Washington told us,
Baths! Just scoop up some water from the Delaware and keep on paddling.
Not me. I hate house cleaning. Hate it. It’s the one real area the wife and I are at odds. I dunno... guess I’m just a caveman.
