Ive been missing the vast amount of information on prepping, survival, camping, simple cooking, the old ways of doing just about everything all the things nw_arizona_granny knew so much about and shared with us, along with numerous other posters with a vast array of skills and knowledge.
We have our various related-threads here, a recipe thread, a gardening thread, and even a prepper thread. They are all great and I dont mean to take anything away from those and the hard work their owners put in.
But I was missing a place to talk about ALL those things, to get the camaraderie that we used to have on grannys thread.
I learned how to can on those threads! The pressure canner was not my friend, I thought, but I bought one and stared at it for a month, intimidated. Then I read the directions for another month. But with the help and encouragement of posters on grannys threads, I jumped in and now have my very own food storage room in the basement with lovely jars of shelf-stable meats, vegetables, and fruit. When we moved, I fashioned my food storage room and insisted upon having a basement from what I learned on her threads. Getting started gardening was from her threads. Making my own cleaning products
.the list is endless.
So I thought I would take the chance and start another comprehensive prepper thread and see how it goes. I used to have grannys ping list since I made one of the threads for her, but alas, with numerous computer changes, I cannot find it. So please pass this onto any posters you think might be interested.
Well just keep it running until..whenever. Granny created a new thread at 10,000 posts or so. I do like the idea of having ONE thread to go to because often I cannot find or keep track of the weekly threads. I wont be posting lots of recipes or tidbits myself to any mods concerned about the size of this thread. Id just like a place to chat, post questions, post ideas, make new prepping friends.
Here are grannys threads, if anyone wants to peruse them:

There’s another type of no-knead bread, it’s called batter bread. Similar to a quick bread, except that it uses yeast and needs rising time. Batter breads look a little odd at first, because the tops usually come out flat or even concave, but they are easy to make and don’t require any muscle.
I’ll see if I can dig out the cookbook that has those recipes. Most of the ones I found online had extra flavorings added.
What’s the chain? I find it hard to believe that corporate lets them get away with that!
Have you taken pictures? Social media has plenty of downsides, but one thing it’s good for is shaming big companies into doing the right thing.
Awesome! I bet she’ll be as pretty too.
It’s neat how the oldies come around. My daughter-in-law loves Johnny Cash ;)
Yeah, church is a different thing. Wouldn’t be right to wear wood-splitting clothes there. I always LOVE getting back home and putting on something comfy, though!
I see Bubba is active on FB - and up to his old activist ways, LOL!
How is your weather there? Ours is 80’s this week, had frost last week.
Cool, I love the Webstaurant store. I had no idea they had KA parts.
Their shipping is high, so I justify buying more because then I am saving on shipping. That’s just prudent buying, isn’t it? I haven’t had an order under $150 yet ;(
I think hubby bought the gears on Amazon - free shipping with prime tipped the numbers in their favor. I think we’ll let prime go next year since it’s more expensive now. I don’t use any of the other perks they pretend are so wonderful that we have to pay more for them. I’ll go back to Jet, Walmart.com, and now, the Webstaurant store.
thanks for the sites!
That’ll be great.
Are they like banana or zucchini breads, but just savory?
BTW, I have the trellises up for the beans!!! I bought the beef beans seeds, some scarlet runner beans and a romano-style beans from Schreck seeds. Just waiting for mid-May, which is when the locals tell me to plant things.
Since I’m learning from people who learned from their grandparents who learned from theirs, I just do as I’m told. ;)
Please add me to list. Thank you.
When baked they look like a regular yeast bread, but with bigger air pockets, and a flatter top. But when mixing the batter, it looks like a banana or zucchini bread batter.
PS: Awesome on the beans! I’m still getting things organized up here.
Yeh, he can’t help himself. LOL
He’d love FR if I could get him on here.
We were having unusually warm weather, all the Spring flowers and blossoms came out.
Then the temps dropped and hallelujah we had rain which turned to snow overnight.
Not good for the beautiful blossoms or little flowers but very helpful to our parched earth and 2 forest fires that are burning up the forests.
Neither fires are threatening us but both were human caused, what part of NO burning don’t these idiots get?
So prepping for a hell-a-cious fire season is something I have been doing.
Got all my bills and important papers into one tub.
Next is our geneology and onto finding all boxes of pictures that are in our storeroom and garage.
Then I can take a breath and enjoy Spring, my favorite time of year.
HEB, TX owned and into Mexico. Mexico and their organic brand is their big push lately so we’re their step child. We used to send complaints to their site but zero response. Took pictures but don’t have the right do dad to connect to my puter.
One time they had a taco “meal deal” (they always run one such) in the circular where you buy one item and get other items free to make the meal. So, for tacos buy ground beef and get the tortillas, cokes and cheese free. Of course, the tortillas “didn’t come in on the truck” (standard excuse). I asked when they’d be getting them. They said the next day, which of course I didn’t want to drive all that way back to town. Knowing their game, I asked how many they’d be getting in. The guy said something like 4. Ack, you don’t fool me so I asked if that was 4 cases or 4 eight count packages. Yep, it was 4 eight count packages. IOW, they were old or had been from a broken case proving once again we get what other stores refuse. Sigh.....
A new FReeper! Give her a big hug from us.
“so I justify buying more because....”

LOL I love the way you think! :-)
We have fires and floods here. A couple summers ago, I looked up and saw a helicopter with a water thing getting water from the river. The fire had blocked the road into town. Thankfully, they got it under control quickly.
Floods have sent us packing more than once. Had someone’s kitchen cabinets wash up on our deck. Another time had a neighbors photos all over the house to dry out. You’re smart with those pictures. Grab and go. Same here as they can’t be replaced. One project was to put all the pictures onto a CD and store one copy in the safety deposit box and a couple others with relatives.
Geez, just thought of something. Made those CDs on a 95 or XP. Would they work on a Windows 10 or whatever comes next?
I will WHEN I get to see her.
They are in UT, we plan a trip up in the not too distant future.
There is a place that you send off your old pictures and they copy to a thumb drive but it takes $$$$ that I don’t have.
And when the grid goes down from an EMP attack and No electricity, then what?
I plan on being off this planet by the time that happens so it will be the next generations problem. LOL
You bet!
HEB, wow, they are huge in Texas. The ones I have been and have been really good. I wonder if they are locally owned, so they don’t have to subscribe to the corporate standards.
Have you tried sending complaints to other places? Consumer Reports, FDA, BBB, news organizations, etc?
I’m trying the Schlotsky’s rolls today - I only have 4” pans, no matter which ones I pick up, they are all 4”. So...about how deep should be batter be when I pour it in?
