(CNN) — White House press secretary Sarah Sanders responded to Nancy Pelosi's stony expression during the State of the Union address by suggesting that the House minority leader "smile a lot more often."
"I think Nancy Pelosi looks like that all the time," Sanders told CNN's Chris Cuomo, who contended that he had never seen her wear such a stark countenance.
"I think she should smile a lot more often. I think the country would be better for it," Sanders said in the "New Day" interview Wednesday. "She seems to kind of embody the bitterness that belongs in the Democrat party right now."
Sanders said she hoped Democrats could "let go of some of that (bitterness)."
Pelosi's expression of seeming disapproval was matched by a number of her Democratic colleagues throughout President Donald Trump's speech Tuesday night.
Sanders was accused by some on social media of being sexist with her remark.
The comments also recalled then-Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus' criticism about Hillary Clinton's demeanor during a national security forum in September 2016. In a tweet, Priebus slammed Clinton for seeming angry and not smiling more during the event.

This sort of statement is a cheap shot typical of CNN. They quote "some on social media", where one can always find a statement to suit ones purpose. This way CNN gets to cowardly attack someone, by quoting someone else. In this case, a nobody on Twitter.
You would thing the half a billion in graft and bribes would make her happy? Guess money can’t buy happiness.
I thought Pelosi was having a stroke or she had a gummy bear stuck in her dentures.
It is those Dill Pickle and Grapefruit smoothies she keeps sipping right before the cameras point at her that are the problem.
My wife told me about RBF just a few weeks ago. I commented that one of my friend’s wifes face looks mean but she looks fine when she smiles.
My wife said, yeah, she has a RBF - Resting Bitch Face.
I noticed her 20 something daughter does too. She’s a cute kid when she smiles, but when she isn’t smiling, she just looks kinda mean.
Poor Nan - the bitterness is likely due to the fact that they thought they’d get another 8 years (at least) raiding the public treasury.
Pelosi doesn’t answer questions. She goes into a interview with talking points and talks only about those points (For the most part). Some people would call that a shrewd politician, I call at a flim-flam devoid of a pragmatic thought.
At her age pouty wrinkle free lips are possible only with the aid of lots of Botox, so who is she kidding. This isn’t a disparaging statement but a mere fact. Maybe she didn’t have time to smile because she was too busy trying to keep her Botox arranged suitably.

Worse — that “nobody” tweet frequently came from the cfnn reporter making the report!
The Botox, plastic surgery, and sand spurs up her butt will prevent any smile.
