A new study has found that women are biologically stronger than men.
Despite history teaching us that men come up trumps when it comes to lifting boxes, sawing down trees and winning pub fights all is not as it seems.
The study by Proceedings of the National Academy of Scientists of the United States of America reveals that women are actually more likely to survive a life threatening crisis than men.
Researchers came to this conclusion by comparing the death rates of men and women who were pitted against famines, epidemics and slavery.
The only two exceptions were the plantation slaves in 19th century Trinidad and freed Liberian slaves around the same time.

This is news? I’ve known it most of my 68 years on this rock just through observation. Wonder how much grant money they got for this startling revelation?
Sure we men go hunting with primitive weapons, cut and haul wood, domesticate wild animals all of which are life threatening.
A woman stays in the cave and makes sammiches......
Is this why women live longer?
Well, duh. Men have an incomplete set of chromosomes. That alone is a pretty hefty biological handicap.
The author conflates two completely different kinds of strength: (1) the ability to do physically demanding labor; and (2) resistance to disease and deprivation. It’s long been known that men (in general) are physically stronger in the former sense, and “weaker” in the latter. The fact that women tend to live longer than men has been an actuarial assumption forever.
Actually it’s because the men pass and the women don’t that the study is ‘true’.
In my family women live longer. Same with my wife’s family.
The men do fight, and win the wars however.
Yes, down through history there have been some female-warriors, but this is the exception,, not the rule.
Boudicca, Joan of Arc, but still the exception.
i see what you did there....
“Biologically stronger” could have multiple valid definitions. Is a marathon runner “stronger” than a powerlifter? Is a gymnast ‘stronger’ than a swimmer?
I recall hearing that a man’s body could not survive the stress associated with giving birth.
Threaten a woman’s children and you will see some FIERCE strength and instant ruthless action!
During the Vegas shooting, how many women survived due to a man intentionally using his own body to block the incoming bullets from hitting their loved ones.
Yes, indeed. Men are much more physically stronger than women (which is why I don’t want them in the military). But women also live longer and are less prone to suicide and risk-taking which has made the male of the species so wonderfully dominant and yet so vulnerable. It makes sense because women’s fertility is biologically very important for the survival of the species.
“Define Life threatening crisis”
Double coupon day at Macy’s.
‘I recall hearing that a mans body could not survive the stress associated with giving birth.’
I’m sure there are some stupid females that believe bullcrap like that...
“women are actually more likely to survive a life threatening crisis than men”
Which tells us nothing about “physical strength”. Perhaps the more logical supposition is that they are more likely to survive because, in times of crisis, any sane society prioritizes allocating resources to help the ones responsible for spawning the next generation, so that the population can recover?
Also, one male can make many offspring in a short time. Gestation cycles restrict female reproduction to the duration of the pregnancy. Because of that, herds will protect the females and the young which means that the males are expected to sacrifice themselves.
Men also have less body fat which means they have less reserve when food is not available so they will suffer from malnutrition first.
Undoubtedly true. The real "Game Over" would be attempting labor and delivery without a vagina.
Could you guys stuff a rag in it, please?
Actually, I suffer from bad kidney stones, which are supposed to be MORE PAINFUL than giving birth.

OUCH!!!
Well, that’s why I used ‘recall hearing’...
