I just turned on my IPhone and an update started. It finished and asked for my iCloud info. I didnt put anything in and now I cannot do anything with my IPhone as a page that says pay Apple $28, just go to the apps is the only thing that comes up.
Ping
Ping!..................
Press and hold the Top (or Side) button until the slider appears.
Drag the slider to turn your device completely off. *
After the device turns off, press and hold the Top (or Side) button again until you see the Apple logo.
You have to put in your apple id and sign in, then go to your name at the top of settings, go to icloud and turn it all off. The update forces you to log into icloud and turns it on, but then you can turn off all the switches.
Dittos! Except it has happened to my iPad & says I need to finish my update to my Apple Pay & I refuse to give my credit info but can still use it!
Thank you. Will wait for my husband to come home from work : )
The two i-phones I once had both started having issues within a year after purchase. Couldn’t send emails and the battery would somehow be drained suddenly just a short time after recharging. And neither the service provider nor the condescending “genuises” at the local Apple store could figure out or fix the problems. So I, and by now all the family on our account, moved to Android phones. No problems in the two years since we got out from under the Apple tree.
“the battery would somehow be drained suddenly just a short time after recharging”
Have the same thing with a Archos 7 inch tablet. Batteries tend to die sooner or later. At least with a lot of phones you can replace them!
Yeah, I plan to go to apple pay about the time I see two feet of snow here in Florida.
If all else fails, you can always stop into the AT & T store, or wherever you bought it. Theyre usually very helpful.
Our best friends just had their entire bank acct cleaned out by giving their bank info to an "ATT help desk!!!!!"
Based on my experience Apple pushed out a bad update some 2 or 3 updates ago. Upon rebooting after an update it refused to let me log in, curiously it had several error messages that it cycled through. Network error, Invalid or no such user name (while trying to recover) and failed log in attempt.
It was infuriating because I can’t keep up with all these different styles of logging and authentication.
I solved it by power cycling off, then on again and logging into apple and apple drive via my pc to make sure I was entering the right password.
I think it’s best to wait a few days after an update. Perhaps the problem is the bandwidth or colocation services on their end are easily overwhelmed right after an update.
Get an Android.
Woohoo. First one!
Yeah, I hate how Apple runs things. We are all tied to the iCloud whether we like it or not. I just got a new phone and have run into numerous issues as well.
I refused to put in any credit card information and so far everything is still working OK. So you dont have to. But you do have to have an iCloud account and an Apple ID. Once you set those up, you dont have to use them again but make sure you save the information somewhere.
As others have said, rebooting is the first thing to try. If that doesnt work, I am out of options :-) I think I have gotten my phone to work primarily by accident.
I have finally branched out into using the iCloud for a back up. It is ridiculously easy! I locked myself out of my iTunes account by putting in a password that I couldnt remember. That is one place where there is absolutely no workaround for not remembering the password. I tried everything that googling brought up. Nothing worked, it is intentionally extremely secure :-(. So I was forced into trying the iCloud back up. Now I am hooked. It does it automatically and I dont even have to be involved.
When I got my new phone, I didnt put a password in iTunes for the back up. But I hardly ever use it because the iCloud back up is lovely.

But I do have a question for all you technical people out there -
I noticed my iCloud back up on my iPhone 6 is much much smaller than it was on my five. It was almost 2 1/2 GB on the five, and now it is about 400 MB. Same data. I dont back up photos but I do just about everything else.
Im not sure if there was a way to make sure the back up is complete, other than restoring my phone from it. Im not willing to take that risks . Now when I Got the new phone and restored the backup from the cloud onto it, everything worked like a charm. It was all there and I didnt even have to change anything. So that was a good test But this much smaller size has me concerned. Are they doing some kind of file compression or something?
PS. Just wanted to add my husband had an android phone and did a Google back up. When something happened and he needed to do a restore it didnt have all his data. Actually he did it twice. Once everything was there and the second time it wasnt. So 50 percent success rate isnt all that great.
So I do like with Apple that you get two choices, the iCloud and iTunes. Maybe one or the other will be correct.
But if anybody knows any surefire ways to back up these phone, whether apple or android, Please let me know. It might influence what kind we get next time.
Well, I have made progress just by turning my phone off and on several times. Now the only thing I cannot do is text. The pay Apple $28 screen only comes up when I try to text. Any specific ideas about this problem?
Sorry you are having problems. I know that can be very frustrating. You pay the big bucks, then that miracle in your hand becomes a nightmare.
I came to the iPhones rather late, starting with the iPhone 4. From there, I never looked back. Cant imagine not having these devices in my life now.
Currently, Ive got the iPhone X. Ive not had any trouble.
I dont use iCloud. I have considered it, and I may go that route in the near future.
Overall, I am very happy with Apple.
These threads turn into Apple bash tests. As much as I enjoy and rely on my iPhone X, I wanted to see at least one positive post on the thread.
Hope you get your issues resolved in short order.
