Murrieta began feeling sick last Sunday, and was sent home from her job at a warehouse to get some rest.
...
"My daughter called and said that Joie was sent home early on Sunday after working a few hours at the warehouse because she was really sick, and that she went home to rest," Gonzales said.
On Monday, her sister took her to an urgent care clinic, where they diagnosed Murrieta with the flu and sent her home with medicine.
"They got there in the morning and waited for a while, then they told her she had the flu and gave her a prescription for the medicine Tamiflu," Gonzales said.
Tamiflu is an antiviral medication used to treat and prevent infection with influenza A and B viruses. It is most effective when taken within 48 hours of contracting the flu.
...
"She was very healthy and never got sick, she worked six days a week and her job was at a warehouse so she was very active at her job," said Gonzales. Murrieta was seemingly not at a higher risk for hospitalization or death from the flu...
... Murrieta did not get a flu shot, Gonzales said, but her doctors said that there is no way to tell now whether that would've made a difference.
Murrieta leaves behind her two sons, one two-year-old and one six-month-old. "She would do anything for her sons and it breaks my heart that the little one, who's only six months, will grow up without her," Gonzales said. "She was just a beautiful person and we want to express our gratitude for everyone who has shown support for our family."

Oh, my. Prayers for your son and for your family.
Paging Randall Flagg. Pick up the white courtesy phone.
Where did you get that statistic?
So sorry to hear about your son. That must have been really scary. Hope he is out of the woods and has a strong recovery. Merry Christmas.
Apparently.

You better stock up on chicken soup this year. You might need it if you find yourself battling the flu.
According to a report in The New England Journal of Medicine, this years flu vaccine may only be about 10% effective against influenza A (H3N2).
Youd be surprised. Especially dark skinned people even in sunny climes are deficient. If you dont supplement or sunbathe daily in a small bathing suit you will be deficient. Your blood level should be over 60. It took me so much supplementation to get there. Then you can be exposed to colds and flus and not catch them, unless youre run down stressed etc.
indeed. exactly why she should have been x-rayed ...
...
They should have and probably did listen to her lungs first as well as getting her oxygen level.
Late August I had pneumonia(for the first time EVER) in my left lung. Had sore/raw throat, a chest rattle, and the absolute worst cough I have ever had in my life. A cough so bad it almost made me vomit.
And, the med stop doctor surprised me by diagnosing it by simply using her stethoscope. Uh, you have pneumonia in your left lung and we are going to verify it with a chest x-ray.
Really shocked me. At worst I thought I had bronchitis, which I’ve had one time before. I asked her how the hell I got it.... and she said from living.
Pmeumonia is a secondary result of infection by a virus (flu, in this case) or a bacteria, and can also be caused by damage from smoke or caustic substances. The lungs fill up with fluid, basically, and you die because you can’t breathe.
She had gotten the flu, in this case, and it was the cause of the pneumonia, so she actually died of the flu.
I’m not big on shots, but I did get a flu shot this year because it’s supposed to be a bad year for the flu. There are two vaccines this year: one protects against three strains, and the other protects against four strains. And then again, the flu that really hits may not be any of these strains.
However, a flu shot betters your odds - and you can usually get a flu shot for free or very little at your local CVS or even the Publix pharmacy, so it’s not a big effort to get that extra protection.
onfo = info
Her death is sad, not senseless.
What was the microbe that caused your pneumonia? Strep?
Wow. I hadn’t heard that. I figured it was some BS internet thing. Thanks for posting that.
I don’t recall, but the vaccine does not cover it,
It was a wet spring and you could not cut the grass, and it got high and wet with mushrooms in there and the next thing you know I was down.
Antibiotics don’t touch flu which is a virus so you must have had a bacterial component that can occur after the onset of the flu. Remember, antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections.
Very sad news.
Really, is that the latest determination. Last year it was 60% effective and in really good years it might be 80% effective.
The anti-vaxers.
>absolute tragedy - senseless death of a beautiful young woman >- clinic should have x-rayed her lungs - she died of >pneumonia, not the flu.
>Very often, influenza leaves people extremely susceptible to >bacterial infections. She would not have gotten pneumonia had >she not been sick with the flu.
Same thing with having a stroke, pneumonia gets a lot of people. Get your Pneumo-vax and Prevnar13 shots folks
