WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. A hungry, slightly inebriated man knew just what to do when he stopped by a South Carolina Waffle House early Thursday only to find the restaurants staff snoozing: He cooked up his own meal, snapping selfies along the way.
He told WIS that he wouldnt normally have gotten behind the grill.
"I give all the credit to my old friend vodka," Bowen said.

Back in the mid 1970s we used to go to a small old bar here in SW Pennsylvania. There was a old timer working behind the bar. We used to say: "Merrill, get yourself one to" and pay for it. He would drink till he passed out. We would place him in a chair behind the bar and start pouring are own. We did that but we never stole any money from the place.

Some people would have robbed the store. He just served himself.
Ans what kind of self respecting Waffle House is empty that time of night?

I would have made a double pecan waffle and some hash browns ("scattered al the way") and washed it down wit a few cups of black coffee.
I miss Waffle House since I now live in the NW and we don't have them here.

WH makes great food . . . good enough for me to remember when I had a brief two month assignment in SC in a previous life. I wish they would come to PA.
It is Hoagie Heaven here (Sheetz, Wawa, Speedway, among others), but we could use a few more WH type outlets.

I was a Maintenance Man for a bunch of Waffle Houses in Arkansas. I could write you a book about what I saw (a lot worse than this) while I worked there.
It is not called the “Awful Waffle” for nothing!

At one time I was living in Pasadena, TX, and could walk to my local WH, which I often did. Recently when visiting kin in the Dallas area (Plano) I took my wife to her first WH. She liked it a great deal.
