What is this?
I don't know what these are but they are installed every couple of miles around here. It is a big deal because an entirely new utility pole has to be installed which is at least 10 feet higher than the others.

Where does the thick cable coming out of that unit go? It looks like it’s bare aluminum cable, might be some sort of grounding for lightening strikes.

Google search found no other images matching the one you posted at imagur.
If that search had found one, it might have led to a site that noted what they were specifically. The key is not the height, but the unique feature attacked near the top.
