Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday pushed back on the immediate need for a second special counsel to investigate former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
It would take "a factual basis that meets the standard of a special counsel" for the Justice Department to make such an appointment, he said during a heated exchange with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) at a Tuesday House Judiciary Committee meeting.
Jordan made a fiery case for allegations of improper spying on the Trump campaign by the Obama administration DOJ that widely touted amongst Capitol Hill Republicans.
Sessions at first demurred, noting that Comey is no longer the director of the FBI and praising the current director, Chris Wray. But pressed further by Jordan "He's not here today, Attorney General Sessions, and you are" Sessions appeared to throw cold water on the immediate need for a special counsel.
"I would say 'looks like' is not enough basis to appoint a special counsel," he said sharply.

Take your RAT propaganda elsewhere please. At least one of those links is an admitted nevertrumper and their posts are nothing but excuses for Mueller and his “Democratic Hit Job” as Trump himself called it Saturday.
And there it is. Just wait.....Trump will tweet about it. Winning! And all that. Lol
Bob. There is no ongoing investigations into the past RAT scandals.
You are in denial if u think there are.
If that’s the standard then why do we have Mueller? Because Trump fired Comey who was a ridiculous FBI director at that point? This is absurd.
That could be several years from now.
Sessions job 1 at DOJ is to obstruct justice in order to protect the swamp at all costs.
*************
With every passing month, it appears more and more like Sessions is a deep state plant. A Trojan Horse for the Swamp.
I can only pray that it is Sessions going bye-bye.
***********
Probably not what Trump is going to talk about. More likely related to his trip. But....Sessions’ tenure is tenuous. He’ll be gone soon IMO.
What you said.
Sleeping beauty?
He is neither.
Sessions simply does not want to get his hands or his legacy dirty
chasing after past RAT scandals. He feels he is above it all.
Good God is there anyone in this govmnt. NOT corrupt.
Simple answer ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ NO!
I said Trump should have demanded Sessions resignation months ago, citing his inability to fulfill his entire duties.
I dont remember anybody providing a factual basis for a Special Counsel to go after Trum and Russia collusion. That was the flimsiest evidence that ever resulted in a special counsel and Congress should overrule Rosenstein’s decision, citing inadequate evidence.
Oh wait! the GOP-e want Trump gone just as much as the Democrats do. Silly me.
Well, what he fails entirely to see then is that this IS his legacy, now and forevermore.
So here in bizarro world there’s ample evidence to investigate President Trump but not Clinton... sure. Okeydokey.
I’d imagine President Trump doesn’t want to fire Sessions for two reasons:
1) Replacing him will be difficult since the democrats seem to control the entire damn legislative body
2) He may not want the inevitable wailing and gnashing of teeth from the left that will prove to be a considerable distraction.
I’d like the GOP congress to grow a spine and act like they’re in charge. Act like Men who love their country. They should be pushing hard against Mueller, Sessions, Clintons, etc.
I would suggest that anyone subject to the popularity contest of elections is probably more corruptable than someone working in the private sector.
I know nothing about this guy...so I am speaking in general terms.
Really. So why is Mueller there. What "factual basis" justified him?
Told ya so.
Trump reminds me of Lincoln...searching desperately for the man who will fight. Unfortunately, civil wars are easier for a president to manage than treason that dominate within the government structure itself. Ask Julius Caesar how that turns out.
He does not see it that way.
