I generally don't, so I'm not crazy about most of your list, but I always really liked Smokey Robinson's "Crusin'."

I mentioned to someone up-thread that I basically tuned Billy Joel out for 30 some odd years because I didn’t care for his radio singles.

I recently heard an interview with him and he said he didn’t like them either! He thought his unreleased songs were better.

In retrospect the good stuff from 1980 was the alternative stuff, not necessarily the Top 100 or Corporate Rock stuff.

It’s funny that I discovered Genesis and Peter Gabriel at the same time, without even realizing then Gabriel used to front Genesis.

I had heard the song “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”, but had no clue who did it. Once I found out it was Genesis, well, I was all in.

That was really good. I’ve always said Bob Segar, and especially his band, is better live than in studio. Not many acts are like that.

my early college days...1981-1982...the great musical awakening for me...genesis was at the top of that list.

I still reach for it now and again, although I must admit that music does not hold the allure/priority it once did...age/maturity thing, I guess...(unless I have a few beers in me... :)

nowdays, I mostly reach for the kindle before the headphones.

My favorite song from 1980 was "Sailing" by Christopher Cross. It was the number one song when Ronald Reagan gave this incredible Labor Day campaign speech in which boats sailed by behind him with Statue of Liberty as a backdrop.

Kind of a sappy song but it always brings back memories of the optimism the Reagan campaign brought to America that summer. For me, it was the beginning of the best years of my life.

Also liked "Magic" by Olivia-Newton John. That's another song that brings back that summer for me.

I remember watching a football game a few years ago where the half-time entertainment was the Rolling Stones. That band had been around over fifty years. It was the equivalent of having half-time entertainment for the first Super Bowl provided by the Clicquot Club Eskimos.

Roger Waters is a complete ass but there is no denying how good of an album The Wall really was. It was his opus.
