“Babylon Sisters” - Steely Dan. By 1980 I was into the Southern California punk music scene after growing up with Led Zeppelin, Richie Blackmore’s Rainbow and Black Sabbath in the ‘70s, but Steely Dan was always part of my music - how can anyone not be amazed at so much studio talent focused so tightly? “Gaucho” isn’t quite as perfect as “Aja”, but it’s glorious in its own way - West Coast decadence captured in cold musical perfection. I still love “Gaucho”, and I think “Babylon Sisters” is probably the best song on that album.
I was listening to Elvis today and thinking, That was 60 years ago. That would be like 1920 music in 1980. There is an advantage to 50s 60s and 70s music though. Nothing better came afterwards, so it should last a millenia.

The song was "Volcano" by Jimmy Buffett
You see, six months after the song was released, Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18th, 1980. Local radio stations played that song in honor of the eruption. Some of them jokingly renamed it "The Saint Helens Shuffle".

9 to 5, morning train. I can’t imagine or remember a song with a theme of a grateful and happy wife singing about her husband in recent memory. This song shows how that era is so different from today.

Had a college roommate from Florida who was an absolute Buffett fiend and I can’t listen to Buffett to this day without cringing, every single song of his is absolutely seared, seared into memory I tell you, and I never need to hear them again.
