Study Reveals Men Become Boring at 39
Sky News ^ | Saturday, 9 September 2017

A new study has shown that most men reach their boring peak at almost 40 years of age, as this is when they have completed many of the things which people deem to be exciting tasks.

The research was carried out by home rental site Airbnb, who surveyed 2,000 people in the UK as part of an attempt to work out the optimum age for boredom and excitement.

According to their results, people are most likely to be be trekking across the desert, dancing on bar counters or taking up base jumping at the age of 27, and become more dull when they take on more responsibilities after entering their 30s.

Women, however, allegedly reach their optimum age of "boring" earlier than men, with the survey suggesting they become dull at just 35 years old.

According to those polled, things that make people fun include: Staying out until the early hours on a weekday, trying a new hobby, going out of the way to make a new friend, booking a spontaneous holiday, learning a new skill, visiting a friend unannounced, changing jobs, going on a spontaneous shopping trip, asking someone out on a date, and trying a new sport.

The problem is not that we’re boring. The problem is not recognizing the fact that we’re boring.

A shopping trip = exciting, huh.

Funny how when *I* want to go to the super extra big gun-show, I rarely beg and beg and beg and beg the woman to come along.

Ya know why?

Cuz I KNOW she doesn’t wanna do that...!

And cuz *I* don’t need a baby-sitter.

I don’t agree with their definition of boring. Not staying out all night on a weekday, scaling mountains, not jumping out of perfectly good planes is not what I call boring at all. It is what I call smart.

So called excitement is way overrated. Give me boring and comfortable over that any day. I prefer ‘enjoyable’ far more than ‘fear and anxiousness’. Those are the types of things that will get you killed or in a bad relationship - which could also get you killed.

My wonderful Saturday nights are spent watching Svengoolie and Judge Jeanine. And can’t forget also lurking FR the whole time too. Popcorn and other yummies optional. A nice open window with the cool air this evening. Puppies curled up beside me. Boring and loving it.

My first thought when I saw the title of this article, was that it was another one of those "scientific studies" touting the use of Viagra for old geezers, or something like that.     :-)

I was thinking the same thing. I think a lot of us become content and enjoy the smaller things in life.

It could be that some people finally grow up and realize that their hedonistic lifestyle ain’t all that “exciting” e.g. drinking until the wee morning hours and dragging your behind into work the next morning is outright dumb.

Don't think I am boring at my age, and it is well past 40. I was Airborne Infantry and all the great and not so great things associated with that. I have been shot at, shot back, and shot. I have seen most of the world, at least the parts I want to see. I have done things such as motorcycle racing, hang gliding, soaring, scuba diving, back county hiking, ocean racing, and other stupid/exciting activities.

Not so much boring now but mostly been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Now I just want to leisurely travel, get with old friends and enjoy their company, and live the rest of my life as I see fit.

That’s fine. Most women start losing their looks at 27.

After going out and wishing I hadn’t, and having a better use for my money, the going out ‘partying’ is in itself boring. Being home and spending money more wisely is far more ‘exciting’. I like this kind of ‘boring’. I call it happy and content!

I have been wishing for a Svengoolie Saturday night thread. Maybe we need to start one. Or a ‘Saturday night for us boring folks’ thread. Or a better name.
