Greetings from Missouri. Really nice day today. Had a little rain this AM, but dry enough to work the garden this afternoon and plenty of afternoon sun. Nights are finally in the 60s.

Got some herbs transplanted into some of the concrete blocks that I used to replace some rotten wood and expand the raised bed by the basement patio.

The taters planted earlier have finally bloomed and the garlic is about ready to pull. Everything has taken about a month longer than usual-I think it's the cool weather.

Hubby planted some sort of purple speckled beans and we got the first crop in and cooked up a mess of them to eat. They turned green and looked similar to the Italian green beans after cooking.

Still no tomatoes. Have been looking at the catalog to see what I might grow this fall that would be different. Have some ancient wheat that I'm thinking about trying out.

Hope you are all having a great holiday weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.

Some progress on your Missouri plot. I have a few ‘maters but some of the blooms are falling off. We had a rainy June here in N. Tx but the summer scorch is just up ahead. Them maters will hibernate until Sept then.

I was in field plowing today, but not in the garden.

Garden got very short changed this season. Too many conflicts. Did put out some more trees at the farm getting ready for when we finish the remodel and move there from town.

My corn is chest high and starting to tassel. My broccoli has not started to head, but my cauliflower has just started. I have squashes of several types and all have got flowers. My peppers are starting to grow pods and I will be glad to have some really hot peppers; including ghost peppers. I live near Seattle.

I can’t believe it’s Friday already and it sounds like the weather has improved for you and your garden. Our 27 year old grandson and his gal are getting married tomorrow afternoon in a former apple orchard that has been turned into a wedding venue just out of town aways. They had a dinner after the rehearsal this afternoon...

I was tap, tap, tap - impatiently waiting for my ISP to kick back on. Made me realize I spend too much time on the electronic gadgets and not enough time doing 'real' things.

My bucket garden is not doing very well. I don't know if I'm just not watering it enough or if there is something gone haywire some other way. Seeing as how there isn't any water nearby, and I have to refill buckets from the house back-and-forth-and-back-and-forth, it may be they just aren't getting watered enough. I did manage to get three little snap pea pods to pop out, and two little cherry tomatoes. My first garden ever, and it's true what 'they' say, that fresh grown tastes MUCH better than grocery stored!

I'm going to let these snap peas peter out, and then change my setup to be closer to water. Maybe hire someone to run me a water line out there, or something...

I just got in from a gig and it’s late here, but I did a lot of gardening today.

Mostly weeding and hoeing...wait...that doesn’t sound right! :-)

10 days ago I was worried if my corn was going to be knee-high by the Fourth of July but it took off and I could almost see it grow. I’m not impressed with the tomatoes but it is still early for this area plus I picked another 5 pints of Blueberries early in the week that went into Jelly and 4 pints today and they will be frozen…

My zucchini are burned to death. My son made lasagna with the one good zuc and spinach. But I will need to start over with the primary zucchini box, as those zucchini never made it past the seedling stage.

We woke up to our typical drizzley coastal fog that is death to potatoes and tomatoes. The fog happens when it is HOT in the Sacramento Valley

All y’all who told me that Sungold cherries were prolific, you were RIGHT. I’ve gotten two pounds from four plants this weekend alone, and they’re only just starting to get ripe. Got a trayful dehydrating in the oven for eating this winter with pasta.

Hello greeneyes and everyone! I have missed participating in the thread now for a few years. I needed to concentrate on completing a project I’ve been involved in for about 16 years. A few months ago, we DID complete it, and now I feel free to once more place my attention on at least a limited involvement once more in gardening and our garden thread!

So this is a report on what I’ve been up to in getting my toes damp again and fingernails dirty!

We were pleased to find that one of the strawberry plants overwintered very nicely and is now happily growing. The herbs did not make it in their pots, so we replaced them - parsley, oregano, mint, and thyme. They are doing very well these days. I laughed to see how we have a volunteer oregano in one of our beds near the back door.

The bee balm we potted last year overwintered, and this year is very happy and blooming, drawing - as you can guess - bees! I had never seen their blooms and they are so pretty!

At the beginning of the season this year, the local box store was selling potted stevia. They had a few mature plants. I’ve not had good luck with stevia over the past several years, and so I decided to try this one. We were looking our plants over yesterday and noticed that this stevia is VERY happy and looks like it is putting out runners, much as a mint would do. I didn’t know it would do that. Perhaps I’m wrong. Does anyone know? We had a leaf garnish from it on our plates last night and it is SOOOO GOOOD! We are concerned about the plant getting too big, because it will need to be brought in during the winter!

The thornless blackberries we planted several years ago are thriving and producing. The birds have even been generous to share a few with me from time to time!

The echinacea patch a few years ago was having some kind of deformation problem - virus, poor genetic mutation - what ever. I pulled the seed heads off the degenerates, and let the better-formed seed heads remain, mature, and reseed the patch. This year they are looking really good and healthy.

This past spring, we had some GORGEOUS red lilies come up, along with the yellow and blue Dutch Iris. The purple and white Iris were also beautiful.

I planted some sunflowers and a few okra seeds. I have four mammoth sunflowers and four okra plants which have come up. I confess to being a very poor gardener, for the bugs are giving these guys a lot of attention, and I just have not have had the time to get out there with the diatomaceous earth I want to try on them.

I had 3 garlic plants come up from last year and were doing well. A couple weeks ago, two of them somehow got trampled or somehow broken. The last one has flowered beautifully. I got a garlic head at the grocery store
that was in the process of sprouting and I plan to go out and plant those in next few days.

The wisteria was pretty, but not breath-taking this year as was the jackmanny. I think the late frost did some damage to them.

The day lilies are quite vigorous and taking over and spreading - which in my book is a good thing!

The mini-chrysanthemums we planted a few years ago are hanging in and seem happy and moving toward a good fall display.

So, this might be more than you want to know, but please accept my warm greetings to my fellow thread travelers, and thanks as always to greeneyes for providing the place to gather!

Been flat for the past week with “summer lung” chest cold troubles.

Irritation pump managed to irritate us again this year. Turned out the 220 breaker for it in the main box died on one leg. Fixed it today.

Have to soak & plant 25 or 30 more speckled bush butterbeans, to replace to ones that didn’t germinate, thanks to the watering & illness neglect.

Took a roast out of the freezer, and found my missing packet of Short & Sweet carrot seeds stuck to the bottom of it.

By the end of the month, we’ll have 3 more freezer bunnies; a new junior doe; a stewing doe; and hopefully a litter well on the way to weaning....and another soon to be stewing doe.

9 elderly hens are still giving 4-8 eggs/day, depending on temps.

German butterballs are blooming; russets not yet.

We’ve had a yard full of feral ‘Flanders fields’ poppies every year. A couple of years ago, a few white sports turned up among them This year the reds & whites have been joined by some extremely deep reds, and a few true pink ones, as well.

Just finished with chores, and found problem junior doe ate all her nest box straw, failed to pull hair, then dropped 6—maybe 7—kits in the bare box. Seem to be doing fine; gave them new chopped straw; her fate is sealed, and involves a Dutch oven.

Got the garden mostly watered, and all the tomatoes in the tires are all beginning to actually take off. Garlic tops are dying, but onions & leeks are robust.

Also found FR threads not completely loading. For example, WGT only loading first 16 out of nearly 100 comments.

Beautiful weather this week in Central Missouri. Cooler temps and a bit of rainfall over the past few days, but nothing like they got up in the northwest part of the state thank goodness.

#3 Son Taylor, DiL Rachel, and the grandboys are on the way here today from Ft. Riley. They're going to be here through the 4th so I'm probably not going to get much accomplished in the garden this weekend. I've got four slabs of baby back ribs in the smoker for supper tonight and here in just a few minutes I'm going to go out and dig some new potatoes to fix with the ribs.

One of my peach trees broke under the weight of its fruit a couple days ago. We've picked 15 gallons of peaches off of it so far and there's probably another ten gallons on there. They weren't quite ripe, but with it on the ground the chickens can reach the fruit so they've gotta come off before they've all been peckered. We'll let them ripen up a bit and then do the blanch/peel/freeze thing to preserve them. This tree makes really tasty peaches so I'm going to clip a dozen or so shoots and stick them in the cloner to see if I can get some of them to root.

Pops and I went to the farm yesterday and loaded up the last of the cedar and hedge posts that he cut there back in the spring and hauled them home.

The chicken stealer in training is about nine weeks old now and turning into quite the little adventurer. I've been taking her to the garden so she can get some exercise and fresh air. Yesterday she climbed up in one of my mimosa trees, and then fell out. She threw quite the tantrum when that happened.

I got up early this morning and dug my garlic. I'm very pleased with the how that stuff did. Whopper heads most of them the size of baseballs. Also dug up a row of yukon gold taters. That's all I had the gumption to do. It's hot out today. Heading out in a little while to catch another sprint car race at Lake Ozark Speedway.
