Tennis star Venus Williams caused a car crash earlier this month that led to the death of a passenger in another vehicle, according to a police report released Thursday.
Palm Beach Gardens police say witnesses told investigators that Williams ran a red light in her 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV, causing a June 9 crash that injured 78-year-old Jerome Barson, who died two weeks later.
The report says a 2016 Hyundai Accent driven by Barsons wife, Linda, crashed into the side of Williams SUV. Linda Barson told investigators that she was approaching the intersection when her light turned green and that she was unable to stop in time. Linda Barson suffered unspecified moderate injuries. Williams, who turned 37 on June 17, was not hurt.
She told investigators she had entered the six-lane intersection on a green light but had been forced to stop midpoint by traffic ahead of her. She said she did not see the Barsons car when she crossed into their lanes.

In Manhattan one often sees these signs at street corners.
If,by chance, other states have similar laws (that drivers are responsible for not blocking an intersection) than Williams might be considered guilty/responsible.
I waited for the police to show up so they could get my contact information as a witness.
Later a judge called me and interviewed me about it. After describing the incident, he asked me who I thought was at fault, and I said both of them. If either of them had been driving reasonably the accident would not have happened.
“Thats the weirdest part about this story - shes driving a seven year-old car!”
LOL! Obviously a Dave Ramsey fan! And I’ll bet she paid CASH for it, seven years ago, too! ;)
This explains why Serena was so testy about McEnroe’s comments. Lots of stress in the family.
For some people a car is just transportation.
Oh stop being an a**.
Hopefully the victim was white. Then Venus will get a parking ticket, after all, black lives matter.
“If either of them had been driving reasonably the accident would not have happened.”
Like on “The Family Feud”.... Good answer! Good answer!!
heh heh
I saw something like that happen.
Came to an intersection, got in the right turn lane. Guy behind me saw light turn yellow, and hit his accelerator, as did the guy behind him. First guy gets up next to me, realizes he missed the yellow by a long way, and slams on his brakes. Second guy then blasts into him pretty good. No one injured, but I’m sure both cars were totaled.
if she were competing against male drivers, she’d be No. 700 in th world ....
Depending on how fast she Williams was going she might not have even reached the intersection yet. Williams car hit the other car in a T-bone fashion. Sounds like Williams ran the light, big time.
>>”Barson told investigators that she was approaching the intersection when her light turned green and that she was unable to stop in time.”
In other words, Williams was already in the intersection when the light changed.<<
That doesn’t make any sense. If she was approaching the intersection when HER light turned green, it was red and she should have been stopped or close to it.
Well, we will finally find out if she is a guy.
“Venus is apparently worth about $75M. Id guess this accident will cost her a lot but shell still be fine.”
2011: Driving w/o insurance.
2013: Driving on suspended license.
And why was it suspended?
Sounds like she is a candidate for a self-driving car.
You're thinking of Serena, she has the current record of 23 grand slams.
Barson is a woman. The decedent’s wife.
She, Bruce “Caitlyn” Jenner, and maybe Tiger Woods can start a driving school. Patches Kennedy can be there too.
Wow! Did you EVER pay attention to cries of racism from the father when his girls had to play on a side court instead of the main court in a tournament? Did you ever hear the father whining about how every bad thing that happened to them was because of racism?
From the article: “a 2016 Hyundai Accent driven by Barsons wife, Linda, crashed into the side of Williams SUV.”
I meant Venus.
