Millennials are, according to Business Insider earlier this month, Killing Chains Like Buffalo Wild Wings and Applebees. This isnt the first thing that weve killed and/or destroyed by stubbornly refusing to spend money on it. Last year millennials got accused of wiping out everything from mass-market beers like Budweiser and Coors to the diamond industry to bar soap.
And, on behalf of all millennials, I can only say: Youre welcome.
Because these institutions were obliterating are awful.

When I was little I’d look at grownups’ diamonds and didn’t see the fuss. No color, it just looked like ice. There’s no reason it has to be the symbol of love. Put what you want on your rings. Certainly don’t support slavery through it.
Hey, I like you!
I don’t have a problem with it. It’s pretty expensive living on your own these days. Even young attorneys can save for a real home by living at home for a few years. Why not? Better to live where you’re loved, all the appliances are there, help out your parents a bit (financially or sweat), and save for that down payment.
I enjoy the 2-3 generations at my and a lot of my friends’ houses. Sure, there are problems, but it’s a rich life and everyone sees how we help the youngest and the oldest and it sets a good example. (And enforces birth control ha ha ha)
Avacados are very high in cholesterol. I learned that *after* I developed a liking for guacamole. I thought this was most unfair.
So you’re the one!
Huh? I thought only animals contained cholesterol. Avocadoes could be high in saturated fat, but cholesterol.
BTW: Cholesterol doesn’t matter if you don’t eat carbs.
I’m glad you didn’t hurt yourself!
We’re all doing fine. The second camp-counselor leaves for his job today, along with some young man with a Viking hairdo who’s sleeping on the sofa. Tomorrow we start Cub Scout day camp, with five staff members and two campers.
June is always a blur, with swim team on top of the camps, but I’m noted for my logistics-management skills.
It’s an old Navy joke. A ship has been at sea for months and the entire crew is, er, aah, hmmm, shall we say.... horny. Several sailors are showering, one of them drops his soap and bends over to retrieve it, thereby placing himself in a vulnerable position. Need I draw a picture for you?
I was told this by a paid dietary nutritionist at a hospital but online research agrees with you. It is very high (32%) in fats however.
Might have been one of those oat bran type of things...
Of course, I remember when doctors considered condoms a very risky and unreliable defense for birth control before anyone had heard of AIDS. Then condoms suddenly became a magic bullet that could do no wrong.
“Im helping to kill Budweiser, too, and Im Gen X. Craft beer is simply better.”
InBev is hedging their portfolio because they believe you.

It used to be possible for a couple of young people to share an apartment and work at entry level jobs - blue collar or white collar - and have enough money to invest in the future by saving or buying tools. That is much harder, if not impossible today. We used to try to pay less than 30% of our income in rent, heat, etc. Today, for the lousy Boston apartment (really a room if you are paying $1800 or less) you would need to earn almost $65,000 per year to be able to afford it. Most young people don't see that kind of money in their first job, even if they went to college.
You're definitely looking at the bright side, which I don't discount, but the phenomenon of delayed fledging has become an epidemic, and that just can't be a good thing for the culture as a whole.
I hear ya, but when has that not been the case for young people just starting out?
I was first married at 21. We lived with her parents for about six months, then got our first apartment. The rent alone was half my monthly take home pay, and there were groceries, utilities, and car bills on top of that. We just barely squeaked by, but we did it.
Seems to me, there's a lot of sloth and softness in the current youth, and that too many in the preceding generations only enable and reinforce that stunted growth, by not firmly guiding the kids to face up to, and deal with the sharp realities of life.
Lots of people don’t distinguish “bad for your cholesterol” from “high in cholesterol.”
I am pretty sure that no plant contains cholesterol.
That would make them double-basement bums.
Probably not. Lengthening the years of nonproductivity on both ends is probably not good long term. We agree. But if it’s only a saving $ on real estate on both ends, it is one solution. Retirement / nursing homes are pricy and so are apartments for young people who are home maybe 8 hours a day.
