Adam West an actor defined and also constrained by his role in the 1960s series Batman died Friday night in Los Angeles. He was 88. A rep said that he died after a short battle with leukemia.
Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans lives. He was and always will be our hero, his family said in a statement.
With its Wham! Pow! onscreen exclamations, flamboyant villains and cheeky tone, Batman became a surprise hit with its premiere on ABC in 1966, a virtual symbol of 60s kitsch. Yet Wests portrayal of the superhero and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne, ultimately made it hard for him to get other roles, and while he continued to work throughout his career, options remained limited because of his association with the character.

He’s not the first anti-hero ever. Maybe the first 20th century anti-hero, definitely the first 4 color anti-hero, but the concept itself dates back to Homer and the word to the early 18th century.
Think of the show opening ... then read the titles of all the anime in order, quickly...then it should come to you.
Yeah. Got it. thanx.
I saw him in an episode of “The Big Valley,” yesterday.
Look at some of 40s and 50s Batman comics like the ones I bought for a dime.
It was on two nights every week.
Always Be Yourself! Unless you can be Batman, then always be Batman.
He was NOT Batman. He was a rediculous spoof of Batman that lasted too many seasons. What a disappointment when it aired.
Please pray for my dad and I. He is gravely ill, . I was a big fan of Adam West and passed on my birthday.
>>>Perfect.<<<
I think you misspelled “Purr-fect!”
I will certainly do it right now.
Can you tell me your Dad’s first name, it always feels better to pray by name. Do you know how to start a prayer thread? I can do that for you if you want. FR has the most awesome prayer warriors. I know it may be difficult now but if you can provide a few details of his difficulties we will focus on them specifically.
God’s will be done, strengthen us that we can follow His plan for us His beloved children.
His name is Carl as is mine . Thank you.
I have - although the works were kid-friendly, the characters itself (when they were developed) had Batman as a dark, imposing, brooding figure.
Oh man, Quahog RI will be needing a new Mayor. :(
RIP
Oh sad ... RIP!! Loved the show — and the full length movie too — the scene with him running around trying to get rid of the bomb was hysterical!!
After graduating from college during my job search, boarded an airplane to Beaumont, Texas for a job interview. I was by chance seated next to Adam West who was headed to Beaumont for an appearance at a car dealership.
Some bimbo got up and seated herself next to Adam West, who, not wanting the attention, removed himself and went to the rear of the plane. So instead to sitting next to Batman, my hero, I had to sit next to the the bimbo. Rotten luck. I never figured out if she knew him personally, or just was an unknown groupie wannabe.
Professor Arthur Bohart Jr.
Another icon passes. :( RIP.
Neither Gotham City or Quahog will ever be the same again.
