15 Worst Star Trek Episodes Of All Time
Screen Rant ^ | May 23, 2017 | Matthew Byrd

At some point in life, you learn to take the good with the bad. It’s not that you necessarily become better at dealing with the bad things in life, but rather that you learn to appreciate that the bad is simply a companion to the good. If you grew up a Star Trek fan, you likely got a head start on this valuable life lesson. Regardless of which Star Trek series you became hopelessly addicted to, you eventually learned that you had a roughly equal chance of seeing something truly great or something truly awful on a weekly basis. Eventually, you come to accept that the bad episodes add a little flavor to the great ones.

Just because bad Star Trek episodes are a vital thread in the franchise’s rich tapestry, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t still some of the worst episodes to ever be broadcast on television. We’re not talking about episodes which stomp on the series’ continuity or ruin certain plot developments. These are the entries which Trek fans and non-Trek fans alike watch with their jaws agape. “How?” they say while struggling to reach some semblance of understanding. “How did this episode ever make it on-air?”

These are the 15 Worst Star Trek Episodes Of All Time.

The Federation not developing the phased cloak would be like the US not developing the atom bomb.

the Frengy was invented by some left wing writer to be Anti-capitalist ... and what show came up with was a Nazi propaganda show with the Frengy as the "Space Jews"

I was Shocked when I saw that episode the 1st time it was so thinly veiled what Old racist stereotype they were retrying to recreate with the Frengy

This is exactly my first impression when I saw that episode when it was first broadcast.

The Next Generation was full of utter crap from a liberal world view, and I eventually stopped watching it because I could not longer stand the propaganda garbage they were shoveling at me.

“I’ve been monitoring their transmissions. They don’t worship the sun. They worship the Son. The Son of God.”

There is another episode ("Who Mourns for Adonais") in which Kirk says something like "We've found the one God to be quite sufficient."

Yes, they were much more respectful of religion in the 1960s.

One of the eps that was RUINED by reworking. The original plant eater was a true ice cream cone of death and the head on view when Decker goes in scared the beejezus out of me.

The new cornucopia-looking rework is so pedestrian.

"The Doomsday Machine" was one of my favorite episodes. I just watched it a couple of weeks ago with my youngest son, and I was very disgusted to see they had ruined the original special effects with cartoon computer graphics that look stupid.

Yes, the original planet eater looked better.

On the other hand the original USS Constellation looked cheesy as hell. It clearly was a cheap plastic model of the Enterprise with a different ID number on it. The revamped one looked better, with more detailed damage. They even showed an asteroid hitting the upper hull and breaking into pieces.

DS9 is my favorite of the modern Treks. But then again at the same time I was a huge B5 fan and DS9 was a ripoff of Straczynski’s pitch he made of B5 to Paramount. I was a big fan of TNG when it came out, but as I grew older and began to think socialism might be a bad idea I cooled on it.

As for Voyager I hated about every aspect of it, starting with Kate Mulgrew’s voice and character as captain. Then there was the oh-so politically correct first officer Chakotay. The concept was good and could have been a rousing adventure with the right cast and a captain in the mold of Kirk who would bend and stretch the Prime Directive as far as needed to get home. Instead we got an SJWs vision of the future captained by a Federation bureaucrat for whom getting home would be a lucky happenstance.

The Federation not developing the phased cloak would be like the US not developing the atom bomb.

This is exactly right, and the idea that a commander would attempt to enforce his understanding of a treaty over the direct orders of his lawful superior were just too great a break from reality for me to accept.

His proper course of action would have been to inform his superiors about the conduct of the rouge admiral, and let them decide how to proceed.

Riker would have been court martialed for what he did. We would have never seen him again because he would be in prison from that point forward.

I didn't notice that when I watched it, but I certainly did notice the cartoon like appearance of the doomsday machine.

I liked the android episode. “AH, the old ones...” The big dude was scary way back.

Prequel to black holes? Was that Commodore Decker who ultimately got devoured?

>>I liked the android episode. “AH, the old ones...” The big dude was scary way back.<<

Ted Cassidy— the original Lurch. He convinced the producer to let him talk and we got the classic “You rang Mrs Adams?”

He was a voice actor for all kinds of stuff. Died at age 46. Just dang.

Ted Cassidy, who also played Lurch on “The Adams Family”.

>>Nope. That shot was from “Arena”. The ‘flying fried egg’ episode was “Attack of the Parasites”.<<

The ep was “Operation Annihilate!”

A hugely critical ep in the canon since that is where Kirk’s brother Sam gets killed. In the ep he was rather unmoved but in lore and books and canon it is a defining moment in Kirk’s career and life.

As for Voyager I hated about every aspect of it, starting with Kate Mulgrew’s voice and character as captain.

Me too, and because the studio had made the decision that the Captain of this series had to be a female. The original woman (Geneviève Bujold) they wanted to play the role canceled, and so they got Kate Mulgrew to do it.

Then as if one politically correct statement wasn't enough, we had to have a black Vulcan as her Chief of Security, because we needed two times the political correctness, you know.

To be fair, I was very pleased and impressed with Tim Russ's portrayal of Tuvok. He captured Spock's manner perfectly. He ended up being the best character of that series. (The Doctor was second best.)

Then there was the oh-so politically correct first officer Chakotay.

Politically correct brownie point number 3. Yes, we had to have an American Indian first officer to round out this Voyage of politically correct propaganda masquerading as entertainment.

I liked the character of Chakotay, but I resented that they insisted making such a spectacle shoving this "diversity" in our faces.

Yes. Even though I ended up liking some of the episodes and some of the characters (I never liked Janeway from the beginning to the end) I didn't like being preached at.

I would have been happier if they had kept Chakotay and Tuvok and ditched Janeway.

I like Picardo, the best doctor of all. I also enjoy the super hot 7-of-9 (Ryan) and strong character routinely seeking optimum efficiency and because of which she verbally “backhands” people left and right. Funny.

“The Empath” with Kathryn Hays as “Gem”, never saying a word to Captain Kirk yet looking like she always looked.
