On the other hand the original USS Constellation looked cheesy as hell. It clearly was a cheap plastic model of the Enterprise with a different ID number on it. The revamped one looked better, with more detailed damage. They even showed an asteroid hitting the upper hull and breaking into pieces.
I didn't notice that when I watched it, but I certainly did notice the cartoon like appearance of the doomsday machine.
