FULL TITLE: United Airlines' stock price falls 2.46% in trading on Wall Street wiping $550MILLION off the company's value after violent eviction of passenger
Investors on Wall Street appear to be ready to jump ship from United Airlines in the wake of the public relations debacle triggered by the forced removal of a passenger on Sunday.
Shares of United Continental Holdings Inc. fell over 3 per cent in early trading on Wall Street, wiping $800million off the company's value.
Just after noon local New York time, the stock recovered somewhat but was still hovering at a loss of 2.46 per cent - resulting in a devaluation of slightly over $550million.
In premarket trading on Tuesday, the share price dropped by 2.4 per cent, according to MarketWatch.
Investors currently peg United's market capitalization at $22.5billion.
The 2.4 per cent drop is an improvement over the 6-per cent drop in share price that had been reported in premarket trading hours earlier.

I know you want to stick up for them but face it, they are dumber than congress.
“Would you trust them with your life? “
Would not trust them to guard a dog kennel.
And they have not gotten any brighter.
Planes are a bunch of parts that are just hanging together until they have something better to do. If an airline can not resolve something as simple as this problem was then I have serious doubts about their ability to keep all those parts together.
So, now we know that the airlines will pay between $800 and $200,000,000 for a needed seat. Sweeeeet.
Somehow, the airlines get a pass for what would land them in orange if they sold cars or driveway sealer.
They will advertise a $270 flight to NYC but only have three tickets at that price. the other 5000 people who book that month end up paying between $350 and $800. If you tried that on a car lot, the AG would close you up faster than the jaws on a chicken.
And, if a concert venue sold too many tickets and refused entrance offering a refund that would be the end of them
But, somehow, the airlines have found the little wormhole to get them a marketing plan no one else would be allowed to have.
That is why we hate them. They cheat us and get away with it.
I blasted United in my other post. Remember United Flight 93 on 9-11? Who was it that stormed the cockpit? Not the Stewardesses but the passengers!! Todd Beamer had to lead that! Think about it, paying customers had to get up and try to save their own lives against terrorists because United’s Steweardesses were WEAK.
Yea the Stewardesses are nasty to you in flight but come terrorist taking over a plane then its up to you to save your own life and try to land the plane.
United..you get what you pay for which is not much.
Oh my.
I'm not going to defend the flyer other than to say that there have been times that I was so fed up with the whole system that I wanted to scream. I don't agree with what he did but I understand why he did it. It seems to me that most people are not defending the flyer, but they are raking United over the coals. Because, they understand why he did it too.
Thought experiment: If you were given $10 billion tomorrow, how long would it take you to acquire a private jet?
The more relevant question would be, is it accepted by the people who patronize their airline? And to choose who gets the boot by random drawing?
“I’m sorry, sir. You will have to leave the plane now”
“WHAT!!?? But my fiance and I are going to Hawaii to get married!!”
“Sorry. I’m sure she’ll find someone nicer than you when she gets there. Officers, toss this bum!”
” If you were given $10 billion tomorrow, how long would it take you to acquire...”
United Airlines? I bet I could acquire enough stock to fire most of the misfits who are running that circus!
Down 1.5% as of 3:30. No big deal.
El Al Airlines does NOT have this problem...oh gee I wonder why that is? /sarc
To paraphrase a line from “Network”, (he) was mad as hell and wasn’t gonna take anymore!”
Everyone has their snapping point. I passed mine a long time ago, that’s why I have ulcers and migraines. And I’ve snapped a few times, you bet! Usually after going a Beer Too Far, so I now stay out of taverns. I thought I saw some passengers jumping up to help officials drag your “BLM” guy off. Glad I wasn’t there. My missus would still be trying to borrow enough to bail me out!
In my humble opinion what United did very wrong was allow passengers to board the plane first without having chosen the four compulsory bumped passengers.
Every time that I was on an overbooked flight the negotiations ans selection process took place in the waiting area.
And since United’s CEO has apologized and the Security officer who caused injury has been suspended, the issue of blame is pretty well settled.
I predict that there will be a substantial (six figure) personal injury settlement to Dr. Dao.
