A day after Microsoft introduced an innocent Artificial Intelligence chat robot to Twitter it has had to delete it after it transformed into an evil Hitler-loving, incestual sex-promoting, 'Bush did 9/11'-proclaiming robot.

Well, heck. Why don't we just nitpick?
Those were the days!.....................
You have successfully revived a year-old story.
Your skill in Necromancy has increased by 1
What do you want to bet that Microsoft somehow “forgot” to put in a religious and moral underpinning.
I apparently logged into DU and was infected...................
I = It................
???
I hate it when that happens.
“Tay” should have been cultivated in a hot house environment
until she reached a baseline of acceptable behavior nd response. You can’t just turn a thought-magnet like this loose online and expect to get the next Margaret Thatcher.
This process will always give you the next Miley Cyrus or Azealia Banks. Azealia is the girl rapper who tweeted Sarah Palin should be raped by a black gang.
Lowest common denominator will reign supreme, especially when those providing input are totally anonymous and protected from direct feedback. An engineer should know this.
The dilemma Microsoft is faced with is creating an artificial intelligence that will be dumb enough to be politically correct. A no holds barred truly smart AI would upset the apple cart by helping the masses to see what is true and what is false.
GIGO.
How would a learning from interaction AI discern an ulterior motive in incoming chat without the protection children have?

First of all, this happened 1 year ago.
Second, our friends at 4chan were responsible.
Oddly enough, those troublemakers have gone increasingly politically right, they really despise liberals and the left, and a lot of them are fans of President Trump.
And they are not reserved at all with their humor, which frequently goes into tasteless and off-color, to downright crude.
Right now, they are pestering the heck out of liberal Hollywood leftist Shia LaBeouf’s anti-Trump “He will not divide us” campaign. His idea was to post a flag with that slogan, and keep a camera on it for four years.
Because of 4chan, who has snatched his flag, replaced it with a MAGA hat, and done all sorts of mischief, he cannot even fly it in the US. So he took it to London, and guess what? He can’t fly it there, either.
One of his flags just had open sky as background, and they were able to *triangulate* its location by observing aircraft flying over it. Seriously good detective work.
You do not want to tick off 4chan.
In past, with just tiny amounts of information, they have tracked down pedophiles, animal abusers, and other scum, and turned them over to the police.
And MS didn't see this coming? My first two thoughts were, "gee that's neat (tech)" and "the online community is going to abuse the {expletive} out of this." In other words, I saw this coming in about 3 seconds. I can't believe MS didn't. They had to have intended it as a social experiment and tech demo, even knowing it was going to be taught some very non-PC things.
You can’t “forget” something you don’t know even exists.
