Police often warn car owners to not leave their cars unattended while warming them up on the driveway.
Officials say leaving your car running is an open invitation for thieves who want to make a quick getaway.
But it wasnt thieves who targeted Taylor Trupianos vehicle.
Trupiano, a Michigan resident, said many people have to warm up their cars for several minutes in the brutal Michigan winter.
However, he didnt know that he would be fined for it.
After leaving his car running in the driveway for several minutes, he came outside to find a ticket on his windshield.
The Roseville Police Department gave Trupiano a $128 fine for leaving the keys in the ignition with the motor running and no one around.
WXYZ reports that there is no state law against leaving your car running, but several cities have ordinances against the practice.
This sounds just like that California DUI charge for drinking coffee a week ago.
Stupid law. If you want to risk having your own property stolen, that’s your right. Another law protecting us from ourselves.
Click it or ticket, just one more way to take money from the people.
It’s hit 20s around here in SC.
I’ve spun up my cold natured Willys jeep a few times. Typically, it runs about 30 minutes.
I’m surprised my commie jerk neighbor hasn’t been at the property line staring funny. He’d get ignored.
so your remote car starter is an invitation to a $128 fine?
“Hi, I’m from the government. I see you have money in your pocket. Give it to me.”
When I lived in Montana, we and everyone else left unlocked cars and trucks running in the grocery store parking lot while shopping. Every truck and some cars had rifles in them. No problems ever.
I’ve read numerous articles that “warming up” a car for the engine’s sake (as opposed to heating the interior) is not necessary for modern engines. If anything, long idling periods might also put unnecessary wear on the engine and seals.
The best way to warm up a car is to drive it.
Oh, they were thieves, alright.
I have to assume that those who passed the ordinance have remote start for their cars so they can warm them up without having the keys in the ignition, the doors unlocked or even go out in the cold to start them.
We don’t all have that luxury, yet cars need to warm up before driving them in cold temps. Are we to sit in them and freeze while waiting?
I’ve had a car guy tell me the opposite-driving it before lubricants warm up is bad for cars.
Wow, generally there are no keys in the car. And most of the northern states warm up their cars. They even keep them running when they run into the grocery store. Maybe they have crime there. Here in northern Wisconsin we don’t. So we can leave our cars running without fear of theft.
Wanna bet. There are illegal theives and legal thieves. Guess which one targeted Taylor's vehicle.
That's just cold, man.
i live in California, and i warm up my car for a few minutes before i drive it in the morning... especially if it’s covered in ice...
My car has combo lock doors so I can leave it running without somebody stealing it! What a bunch of Barney Fifes!...................
If someone stole the jeep, they’d find it was a big mistake.
No brakes and the steering box is worn out.
It will go where the universe wants it to, probably upside down in a ditch.
$$$$$$$ grab
