I’m not trying to be a troll. I just didn’t think too much of this movie, that’s all. Reasonable people can disagree. I understand that this is part of an anthology that doesn’t correlate directly with the 9-part Star Wars anthology, and that it is just in the same universe, but I didn’t think that this was a very good film. Disney is, IMHO, using the Star Wars name to rake in bucks without putting too much creativity into the movies. 7 just sucked - it had a few good moments, but the story wasn’t that great. Rogue One is in the same boat - again, IMHO.
When Lucas had full control, things at least had a shot at being of higher quality. Not so under Disney, plus we get a lot of PC crap as part of the bargain.
I had heard it stunk. Wasn't all that interested in attending. But, since my lovely wife wanted to go....
I actually enjoyed it. Good flick. People on the thread are right, beginning was a little slow, and it got better and better. Meshed nicely with the entire story, and not in the ham-handed way that George Lucas does it.
Depending on how long it's been since you've seen the original Star Wars (A New Hope) or if you can quote the movie line for line, that might be worth watching as a refresher. There's a million tie-backs (tie-forwards? tie-ins?) to the original Star Wars. Watching them was as much fun as the movie itself.
“Do you realize you admitted to piracy on a public forum?”
If Disney wants to go after me for accessing a website, let them have fun.

I work too hard to pay $12/ticket for 4 people, plus the inevitable hyper-expensive popcorn and drinks, for 30 seconds of very worthwhile footage in an otherwise mediocre film that largely wasted the other 2 hours and 12 1/2 minutes of my life. You can spend your time and money as you see fit, of course.
I was shocked how good it was. I don’t think there was one bad scene In the whole movie, the third best SW movie (IMHO). And not a hint of PC, just great action!
Total trash. Don’t waste your money if you haven’t already.
Didn't spot any hidden propaganda or weird stuff - just a good, solid adventure movie.
Will definitely buy the DVD when it comes out.
Saw it with the kids lastnight. 3D IMAX. My daughter popped for the tickets for some car work her brother and I did for her Saturday. If you see it in 3D try to keep your head from tilting to keep the image sharp around the edges.
I saw the original Star Wars when it first came out in theaters but I’m not a fanatic (anymore;). I say go see it, it’s visually stunning and the plot is entertaining enough to spend a message of confidence in the election outcome.
Agree. That is the bad ass scare the crap out of you Vader we have all envisioned since 1977.
Um when Lucas had full control we got those awful, unwatchable bad prequels, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Those films represent 6 hours of my life I will not get back. I think I’d rather sit through an Ed Wood marathon than watch those again. Quality? Lucas? Jar Jar Binks anyone? “Actors” like Hayden Christenson?
Disney is improving the brand after those debacles.
Was it good?
The movie is set in a time immediately preceding the very first Star Wars movie. At the start of the movie there was no printed narrative (written episode update) fading into space, I missed that. C-3PO and R2D2 made an extremely brief cameo. No Chewbacca boo. No Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, boo. There was a five second BRILLIANT cameo of Princess Leia at the end, it looked like really good CGI. Darth Vader was back and his appearance wasn’t just a momentary cameo. Yay.
What I REALLY liked was the CGI version of Grand Moff Tarkin, originally played in 1977 by Peter Cushing. Peter Cushing died in 1994. The Rogue One Tarkin face was really good CGI superimposed on the face of an actor who had the same skull dimensions. The recreation of Cushing’s voice was very good also.
Overall, I liked the movie and I will go see it again.
Total trash. Dont waste your money if you havent already.
I might call this Episode 3.75, merged very well into A New Hope.
If you understand that the entire concept was based on getting kids, teens and young adults into the movies, then crap like Jar Jar, the Ewoks, the childish humor, etc. make sense. I didn’t enjoy that stuff either...but if you look beyond it to the story line, then it is a great concept. Also, no concept is ever perfectly executed, Star Wars being no exception to that rule.
I’m willing to give Disney a chance, even though it isn’t my favorite company for a wide variety of reasons.
BTW, if either you or I was so brilliant, WE would be making movies to our tastes...and there would be people complaining about us, too. Peace - these are JUST movies.
Wife & I went to see this film yesterday.
LOVED IT!!!
The humor and lovable characters were YUGE to me.
Didn’t feel the same towards any characters in the last 3.
Yup!
And I was 9 when it came out.
there were no homosexuals anywhere.
It was not a “big scale” movie. (a LOT of product placement of new and old toys)
BTW anyone notice how the good guys are all from outer “fly by” planets? (see flyover country)
(s) Pirates of the Caribbean is the next Disney franchise movie(/s)
