..She has for one, shown serious dedication to that most fashion of affectations: the shoulder robe (the art of balancing your coat on your shoulders, which offers a more nuanced, high level approach to putting on an outerwear garment rather than the pedestrian act of simply putting your arms through the sleeves). Her efforts here are accomplished. On stage in Iowa, after introducing her husband as the best master negotiator she stepped back from the lectern, flicked that perfect blow-dry delicately over her shoulder, and all without her bright red coat budging an inch. Thats not just rigid tailoring and a sturdy shoulder-pad; thats professional....

No kidding.
There are exceptions, though: places that have large Asian populations still have some very nice fabric stores, usually little holes-in-the-wall. And some of them will make clothes for you!
Asthma started with wall-to-wall carpeting.
Closest stores to me now are Joann and Hobby Lobby.
They’re very nice for some things, but not a great selection of quality dress fabrics.
What a relentlessly bitchy article. I expected better from the Telegraph. It’s a very conservative paper.
Funny memories of days gone by. Had a male English teacher in high school. Always sat on the front row, always had lots of crinolines under my skirt which elevated it to an interesting level and always got an A!
I love Mrs. Trump’s style. Very classic, basic, versatile, tailored and made from fabric which has substance. Hope we return to that once she is in the White House.
“The Punk meets The Godfather!”
Love me some “Who” references.
Hey it’s fashion. It’s a bitchy world ;-)
Hancock Fabrics was a favorite store of mine, too. I miss it.
My late mother helped me make my wedding dress and veil from silks and lace purchased there. IIRC we used a Butterick pattern.
Not much point in trying to sell patterns if your customer base can't find material.
Melania could wear something off the rack and it would look like a designer piece on her.
Perhaps some do, or have ads. The Vogue website has a locater for stores that sell their patterns (which are logically also fabric stores) but for my area, all that come up are Joann’s and G Street.
I haven’t been to one of the large Joann’s ‘superstores’, and it could be they have a better selection. I just don’t find much quality stuff in natural fiber.
Color on computer monitors is getting better, and if you know fabric you can probably do well with online shopping. But it’s not the same.
[Eat your heart out, Michelle.] After about half a million dollars of recontruction she was able to appear a little better but this photo was her core.
yes lol
I had a sewing machine (years ago I made some clothes, my mother was avid and accomplished) but I sold it- no time to sew (full time job and then freelance to make ends meet).
any way maybe in the new Trump America there will be many people making clothes and they can be had at a reasonable price, instead of like some rare bird.
Oh man.
I know, I hate seeing every woman in the news reporting business wearing sleeveless form fitting dresses.
LOL. I can take it. I had an older brother. Ha!
But back to the every day hairdo thing....there hasn't been any actual "STYLE" in decades and so now most people look like unmade beds, mutton dressed as lamb, and re men...5 o'clock shadow is NOT "sexy"...it is unkemptg and "man buns" make you all look like idiots!
