The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread.
Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

Everything has been brought in that could fit. Green tomatoes washed, and ready to wrap up to get ripe. Lettuce and greens under row covers. Garlic is left to fend for itself - should be ok.
Rye and hairy vetch is about 4 inches high, and looks like spring. Have been busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. Will be putting on a crockpot tonight to cook a pork roast.

A noble glorious oak stands right near my house.
Unfortunately all the leaves ended up on my flat roof, and then it rained, making a huge disgusting mat of wet leaves.
I spent the day raking the wet leaves off the roof.
And of course when I was done, I was surrounded by able-bodied neighbors telling me how I should have done it differently.

We’re having our first snow of the season. Just a little, nothing the least bit pretty as we also have 30-50 MPH winds along with it.
The temperature has dropped from 68 to 36 in the past three hours.
Looks like our Indian Summer is going immediately into an Eskimo Winter! The puppies are safely tucked away in the barn, inside their barrels filled with straw. The Mule even came into the barn this evening, and the Beagle was howling so pitifully at the porch door that I let him in for the evening. (He’s currently warming my bed, LOL!)
Beau is still out in CO, Elk hunting. He might have some serious trouble getting back home as there are blizzard conditions between CO and WI. He’ll be heading back on Sunday.

We started out in a 10 x 50 mobile home - 5 feet of that included the hookup for pulling. Moved it around as we moved. Lived in it for 10 years, until we settled down and built a house.
I got the leaves swept off the patio this AM before the rain started.
I don’t grow a lot in the way of vegetables, just a few tomato plants and herbs this year. It’s mostly because I have very few full sun locations in my yard. However, I do adore flowers of every kind, and spend most of my spring and summer tending those. We had our first freeze last week, so I brought in my healthiest annuals to attempt overwintering. It’s pretty much an experiment for me to see how many things can survive until next May. If anyone has advice for me, I’m all ears. I don’t know how much to water or how many hours of sunlight to try. I’ve got a sunroom that I’m using for some of these, but the rest are in the basement that has some natural light. I’m considering putting in grow light bulbs, but have no idea of how long to leave them on. Suggestions?
I don’t think mine can ever be moved. It has been sitting here since 1968, has an addition and a wrap-around deck. LOL!
(But the hitch is still attached)
Greenhouse electrical wiring has been repaired from the chipmunk damage the citrus trees, pineapples plants and container tomatoes have been moved in for their overwintering. Tomorrow I must begin covering 3000 strawberry plants and a few tomato plants as that cold front moves closer to us, I hope to keep the tomatoes going a bit longer. My wife and I are longing for the rainy/snowy winter days when we can lay around and watch old movies all day.
Well, I don’t do much with flowers. Back when I had flowers indoors, they always died. I know now, that I probably overwatered them. Some plants are sensitive to the length of day, and others are not.
I have a patio door that faces southwest. So it doesn’t get much in the morning. When the sun goes down, I turn on the grow light till about 8 pm, which is when the summertime sun would be going down. I use a full spectrum light, since I’m growing lemons and tomatoes, and endive. I need to plant a pepper plant, but haven’t figured out where to put it yet.
I’ve got 3 of 5 beds ready for winter. Pulled up 2 layers of weed barrier (useless), mulched the leaves and turned all the soil over. Guess what I just found cleaning out the garage? A Ryobi rototiller! NOW I find it. Well I’ve still got two more beds to do and then the big garden. That’ll be the last thing to do. I’ve still got leeks, mint and broccoli came back. They’ll get mulched up over the winter.
We had an addition we added at the back door for storage of tools, etc. Also had skirting. Sold it after we moved into the house. They eventually moved and took it with them.
At only 10 ft. wide, it’s not that bad to move. It was the last 10 wide on the lot- the new models were all 12 ft. wide, cost more, and because of the layout, had smaller bedrooms.

I brought a large, potted Red Geranium in from the porch, tonight. She was the last hold-out, but it was time. She’s STILL blooming on November 18th!
Not sure where I’m going to go with her, either. ;)
