Of course...And for many, the program will NOT work without the humility of acknowledging a power greater than oneself. No God..No Grace.
Then let the sombitch keep drinking.
Hell, I ‘ll buy him drinks.
Helps him along to a sooner room temp.
Sounds like the guy needs a meeting.
A wise old timer would say: AA is supposed to change the alcoholic, not the other way around.
I know an atheist who once said that some of his ilk want any mention of god removed “from the public square.” This is the end goal. No public prayer, no worship services on TV, no bibles in hotel rooms or bible quotes on fast food cups, no mention of Merry Christmas.
A real atheist would NOT fret about our Creator. But a Satanist certainly would.
That’s what anti-God people do. They want the entire world to change to suit them.
AA is not a state-run program. Good luck with that. It’s that whole “freedom of association” thingy.
It’s not a government program, it’s private. Don’t like it? Deal with it.
Since AA isn’t a government organization, the man has no standing.
It’s a private group, they can do what they want. Anyway, I thought AA doesn’t talk about “God”, they only require you to acknowledge some kind of “higher power”. It can be the universe, evolution, the Force, or Barney the Purple Dinosaur for all AA cares.
He can start his own program can’t he? A.A.A.
Atheist Alcoholics Anonymous
I’m positive old Bill wouldn’t mind.
Or fight to remove AA as a court mandated punishment. They’re good with either one. And given that AA’s success rate is no better than any other treatment program it really shouldn’t be the one you get sent to when the courts decide you have a problem. If we’re going to have court mandated treatment it needs to either be one with a high rate of success, or opened to any treatment program.
The petty tyrant just wants to force his religion on everybody else. Doesn’t seem to be to interested in dealing with his addiction.
Sobriety is not his first concern
To be honest, I’m surprised the deity word is still even there. Nothing is stopping the Pagans from forming their own organizations, vs trying to piggyback off the success and history of the AA.
If it’s not the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, the God found in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, it’s a false god anyway.
You don't like it, pick another program.
AA went to court to prevent judges from ordering people to attend AA meetings. Their point, and it is a logical one, is that the program is for people who want to be there and someone who attends only because they are ordered to defeats the purpose and may cause harm to other members.
Only word I can think of for this person: Relapse.
