Primetime ratings for the opening weekend of the 2016 NFL season were not kind. Not only were they down across almost the entire board, Monday Night Footballs numbers showed signs that last seasons slide might be continuing.
MNF averaged an 8.1 rating for the 2015 season while garnering an average viewership of 12.9 million, down two percent and three percent, respectively. In Week 1 of the 2016 season, the early game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins was the least watched MNF game since 2012 (7.7 rating, 13.0 million viewers), while the San Francisco 49ers Los Angeles Rams follow-up was the least watched since 2008 (6.2 rating, 10.3 million viewers). Week 2s showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears generated an 8.3 rating, which is off 11 percent from last years second-week match-up and is the lowest since at least 09, and likely further back.

Agreed. I don’t have cable, so no MNF for me. It used to be a big deal.
And I am to believe disrespecting the American national anthem isn’t a factor?
The NFL and ESPN. Two birds with one stone.
cable network is in no position yet to get the numbers of a mainstream alphabet network.
plus who the #### wants to be lectured by bob costashi# while watching a game.
I watch TWO sports. Boxing (which is antique nowadays with UFC) and football. Dont like anything else. So I watch my team every week, unless someone kneels and that’s it.
I WISH i liked another mainstream sport. But I dont.
Who wants to watch a bunch of Black millionaires whine and cry about nonexistent racism? Anyone that wants to pay me half what these bastards are getting can whip me and call me and ugly woman!
Screw the NFL.
To me, and that’s just me, ESPN has destroyed sports on TV. They out bid everyone for all the major events and have become nothing short of arrogant and even a mouth piece for the progressive movement. Just watch some of the programming they put on. Always for the progressive and negative towards conservative or sports people who are Christian. They can run their fat mouths supporting a bunch of homos, and then rant negative towards Christians.
And I am to believe disrespecting the American national anthem isnt a factor?
Good one! A lot of people are just tuning out. I’m tired of the spectacle football has become and its PC orientation.
Thursday night’s game was sooooooooooooooooooo boring.........................
I occasionally get into hockey, then get right back out.
Boxing you couldn’t pay me to watch.
Yeah, yeah, it sucks. But what’s a patriotic American supposed to do for a sport? Watch soccer?
Come to think of it, maybe that’s part of the cultural Marxists’ plan to tear down all traditions. Has anyone noticed how hard they’ve pushed soccer in the grade schools, starting about 20 years ago?
The bond issue on the ballot in San Diego for a new football stadium will tell a big story in November. It’s pretty much assumed that the thing will go down in flames.
There weren’t that many Rams fans in St. Louis anyway. The stadium was part of the stipulations for moving the team there. As an ex-St. Louisan I’m glad they didn’t pay hundreds of millions to upgrade/build a stadium for 10 events per year.
Both MNF and Thursday night games are just awful matchups typically.
My daughter walked into the living room Sunday afternoon and asked me why I wasn’t watching a football game, as I usually am. I told her that I won’t sit (to watch the games) if they won’t stand (for my country’s National Anthem).
It is that simple.
sunday nite it about to get bad - the Bears are on.
I have stopped watching and will not watch or attend or support sponsors.
I would not want to oppress them.
