According to the British actress, her handbag was taken from underneath her chair while she went to accept an award during the ceremony.
Abbington took to Twitter on Sunday evening to post about the incident.

It was probably a seat warmer. At the Hollywood events they have a bunch of people waiting in the wings to fill in seats when somebody is going to be gone a while (or permanently, lots of folks leave after their category is done) so that audience pan shots don’t show a bunch of empty seats. Seat warmers are slightly better than schmoes off the street.
At the Academy awards they hire nobodys to dress well and sit in otherwise empty seats. I think they call them “seat fillers.” It is a great opportunity for a thief. In my city there was a ring of thieves who dressed up and went to weddings. All of the bridesmaids put their purses in the same place. The thieves know this and steal them.
Judging by the ratings this show got if the TV camera had been pointed at her chair the whole time nobody still would have noticed.
What about this? If it was that easy to take something from under a seat, think how easy it would be to put something under a seat.
So imagine some ISIS folks as seat warmers and about a half dozen of them put something under various seats, leave and about 10 minutes later...
Wow.
If I were the award people, I’d stop using seat warmers.
......next year bring two purse...one with your valuables and one to leave under your seat....that one you put two dog turds in a sealed cheap beaded jewelry purse....
