You don't need a cookbook. Just use the general dietary guidelines. From the Wiki page: high consumption of olive oil, legumes, unrefined cereals, fruits, and vegetables, moderate to high consumption of fish, moderate consumption of dairy products (mostly as cheese and yogurt), moderate wine consumption, and low consumption of non-fish meat and non-fish meat products.

It’s big on fresh fruits and vegetables, olive oil for your fat, fish and chicken for your protein. Wine if you drink. You eat like the Italians and the Greeks.

This article gives a good step by step explanation of it. It also has a cookbook that you can download.

Maybe move to a country that is on the Mediterranean then eat what the locals eat?

Recommend you reduce sugar as much as possible in your diet.

Swap bad carbs out for good carbs.

I find the Internet a much more useful source of recipes than cookbooks.

Check out these results from a Google search for Mediterranean Diet Recipes.

I did - Ive honestly had better luck adhering to a fresh veg, lean meat (bison/venison/chicken) menu that allows some cheese, some dairey - Ive completely eliminated processed sugar, coffee, ,beef & Pasta (Im Italian)

I was 295 in april - now 268...I have another 40 to go - We get a farm share weekly - with that many fresh greens it obligates me to use them.

I would also suggest watching "fat sick and nearly dead" and "F S N D 2" - both are excellent in detailing the calorie rich culture we live in and the second focuses more on support networks (I don't juice personally, though these films advocate it) I prefer something sustainable

Eat what people ate before processed foods was invented...

Fresh meats, fresh fish, fresh veggies, fruit...

No soda, no sugar...

It’s hard to do, but you can do it...

Why did your doc advise this? Weight? Or Blood Pressure? Or Cholesterol? Just curious.

Mrs Gamecock is a Registered Dietitian and recommends the following:

“The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook: A Delicious Alternative for Lifelong Health” Nancy Harmon Jenkins
“Greek Revival: Cooking for Life” Patricia Moore-Pastides

Both are on Amazon

I guess if your doc brought it up he may have had some reason.

I would ask his nurse to send you a link or flyer.

As a male past 65 I had never really dieted until two years ago. I am a large framed person, 6’1 and can carry extra weight without looking too fat but I don’t want to.

My wife and I have used “The Belly Fat Diet” with great success. When I retired last year I entertained and traveled a lot and now am doing a repeat of my efforts in 2014. I have lost about 10% of my body weight and have another 5% to go.

If I eat all as directed I don’t get hungry and non-compliant.

Think Italy - pasta, garlic, more garlic, olive oil, basil and tomatoes. Tuna, fish, bread. Wine. And don’t forget to wave your arms when you talk/ it’s great exercise.

I have a cookbook titled:

Mediterranean Food of the Sun, by Jacqueline Clark and Joanna Farrow. I use it often, recipes have been delish. I especially like that every recipe has at least one photo.

So he told you to travel the Med and eat? You can turn in the cost of the vacation to your health insurance carrier?

I wish I could get my doc to give me that prescription.

Use REAL olive oil, not that “extra virgin” bullshit. Get it at your store from THIS brand: http://shop.californiaoliveranch.com/?gclid=CIet1IjF880CFYQfhgodaaUKsg

Grains are OK, eat fish, and drink RED wine. Also, no super sizing. I bet that’s the real reason the diet works— the people in those countries aren’t obese pigs who need half a gallon of soda and 6 pounds of sugar snacks per day.
