Cruz to NBC: Trump 'Inappropriate to Attack a Judge's Race or Ethnicity'

Here's an interesting exchange between NBC News and former Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz that happened just now:

NBC: Donald Trump's remarks about Judge Curiel, are his concerns legitimate?

Cruz: Of course it's inappropriate to be attacking a federal judge's race or ethnicity. You're going to have ask Donald to explain the reason he says the things he does. I'm not going to try to do so.

NBC: Ben Sasse said that what Donald Trump said about the judge is pure definition of racism. Is Donald Trump a racist?

Cruz: As I said, it is obviously inappropriate to attack a judge's race or ethnicity. Beyond that, you're going to have to ask Donald.

NBC: (As Cruz walks away): Last question — Senator, can you fathom though still at this point supporting Donald Trump in November?

Even the judge had to admit he is part of La Raza. There is a reason for that.

Yes, he is getting screwed over, but it's an unforced error on his part.

I didn't say he should "roll over". And, I didn't say he should "avoid controversy". What I said is that Trump should have chosen his words more carefully.

In fact, attacking this ‘head-on’ is refreshing. La Raza has operating under the radar. They are not part of any America that I know. If it helps to expose them, then, again, Trump is spot on.

He didn't attack La Raza at all. He attacked the judge, citing his "Mexican heritage". His mention of the lawyer's association has been lost in the noise.

But yes, I think exposing them and the corrosive effect on our judicial, legislative, and executive branches of government is a good idea. An organization to promote whites would be roundly criticized -- because it would do so at the expense of others. The 800 lb gorilla in the room: any organization to promote (insert qualification here) must do the same.

I have no problem with people that want to do so in private business. But, such an association has absolutely no place in government at any level, and membership in such an organization should be an instant disqualifier from government office or employment.

But, Trump isn't doing this -- at least not effectively. Instead, he's tossing accusations that have boomeranged on him.

Why the heck doesn’t Trump use the judge’s race-based scholarship awards, including awards to illegal immigrants? And the judge’s activism with La Raza Lawyers Assn in favor of illegal immigration/immigrants? That’s grounds for the judge’s recusal. Is his research staff that bad? Does he even have a research staff?

I don't know. I've been asking the same questions, and getting flamed because I questioned Trump's choice to lead with the judge's Mexican heritage.

I posted earlier that Trump should have let his lawyers file a motion for recusal with all the things you have mentioned, and simply announce the motion and let it speak for itself.

If Trump had pointed out that the judge belonged to an organization that advocates for illegal aliens (a fact in evidence), is affiliated with an organization that is actively protesting Trump at rallies (also in evidence), the judge would now be on the defensive. Better yet, Trump should have just let his lawyers file a motion for recusal, and point reporters to the filing with no comment other than "we have filed that motion". But now, Trump is on the defensive.

Yup, you're the only one on this thread who sees this clearly. I can't believe Trump went there when he knows the press has been desperately trying to paint him as a racist from the get go. He needs to up his game or we're gonna wind up with that evil psychopath Hildebeest in there.
