A Bloodbath of Shows Axed for New Shows to Debut Next Season

It wasn't quite the Red Wedding, but Thursday brought viewers news of more than a dozen prime-time shows being axed to make room for new programs next season.

ABC took the sword to seven series (including country music drama "Nashville" and veteran whodunit "Castle") while Fox is sacrificing five freshman shows, including comedies starring aging pretty boys Rob Lowe and John Stamos.

Meanwhile, CBS is deleting "CSI: Cyber" after this, its sophomore season, thus laying to rest the "CSI" dynasty that encompassed four series during a 16-year span.

The official body count — as well as new programming blood for the 2016-2017 season — will be rolled out next week at the networks' "upfront" sessions for advertisers.

But through a combination of network leaks and networks jumping the gun, a flood of announcements got early exposure Thursday.

The only way it could be “surprising and subversive” is if it has an undiluted conservative message.

To be replaced by shows with queers in leading roles.

Guessing Miss Piggy refused to play a dyke. Or muzzies objected to her.

Of those cancelled I've only seen or heard of the Muppets and Castle. I enjoy Castle but the Muppets are annoying. We're watching less and less tv all the time. Guess we'll be watching even less next season. If it weren't for football, we'd cut the cable.

I watched CSI Cyber through part of its first season. The show was patterned like most such shows, but the Geek Tem just didn’t click.

The agent played by Patricia Arquette seemed to be the only one who knew everything about the unlawful cyber methodology of every new cyber crime. She had to explain each one to her staff Geek Team, making them seem to be pretty stupid to do much on their own.

I was surprised it even got a season 2.

Ha-ha, our family is right along with yours, don’t know anything about any of them, except for their violence and immorality depicted when they are advertised, usually at news time.

You haven't missed anything. I got tired of all those TV shows inserting PC messages and anti-morality themes.

We primarily watch Dateline, some shows on ID channel, Jeanine Pirro, Greta, and occasional reruns of old shows.

You must be my twin! Will miss Castle and CSI:Cyber. Glad Blue Bloods, Elementary, Hawaii 5-0,Criminal Minds, etc, coming back. Appalled that Gibbs had Moochie on.....but maybe she asked and they felt they couldn’t say no.

George Lopez has a new show. Talk about desperate. Just seeing the commercials makes me want to shoot the TV.

Yeah, I scan the USENET tv group, and Fillion was overtly jealous of Katic which caused problems. Fillion must feel great now, having it confirmed that he can't carry the show without Katic.

The Lanie character didn't add anything, imo. Arye Gross's "ME" had much more appeal, and did a better job, as a foil than ME Lanie.

I like some of the Brit, Aussie, NZ and Canadian movies/TV shows that don’t make it on American TV. PBS does show quite a few, however.

Right now, I am watching the long-running Canadian show, The Republic of Doyle. It reminds me of the old Rockford Files with James Garner. Just enough humor to make it light, but enough drama to make it interesting. I am into Season 2 via Netflix.

Get rid of CSI International.

It is unwatchable...

Blind Spot is getting long in the tooth as well.
