The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won't be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
The endive, spinach, and lettuce are beginning to be recognizable. The potatoes are growing like gangbusters. We had a bit of rain earlier today. Still not sure what else I will be planting in my remaining 30 sq feet of the main beds off the back patio.
Hope everyone is doing well. Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
The only seedlings that survived the below freezing night a few weeks ago are the hot lemon peppers and the ancho peppers. I put new seeds in the cups where the other seedlings died about a week ago. Nothing yet, so we may be buying plants this season. It’s not the end of the world.
Endive— I believe escarole is a type of endive. My grandma made an awesome escarole dish— I tried growing it here but not too successful.
Chervil in the cold frame is going absolutely nuts. We're eating salad every day and can't keep up with it.
The asparagus is also doing well. This was picked Wednesday evening.
You have a good outlook. Still I always hate it when something like that happens. I’m lazy enough when all goes well. LOL
LOL. Not for me!
This is Frisee or something like that.
Thanks for the pics. I too wish the rain and cool weather had held off till Monday.
One of my most precious childhood memories was staying w/ my
aunt....she would be preparing dinner then would instruct me to go out by
the backyard fence (where she had some sown seeds).... and pick a bowl
full of young lettuce leaves for the evening salad. Talk about delicious.
Whew! The only thing left is to mulch the second row of cukes and put four eggplant seedlings into the ground.
It has taken me two weeks from tilling to finish.

I’ve done my beloved Black Krim tomatoes for years. I can’t believe how popular they’ve become over the last two years or so.
Every tomato is new for me save the Robeson.
30 Alabama Red Okra.... - - - - A GREAT heirloom though not the size for pickling. My second year for these. They’re great!
A polish pickling - Monika.. It doesn’t require pollinators..

I planted 6 Shishito pepper seedlings.
These are awesome producers and great on the grill.
I like them prepared Korean style(s).

Those are great memories to have. Certainly the vegetables taste better that way.
I love the rare seeds website. Those are a lot of new to me varieties too. Let us know how they all taste.
You are right that’s gambling weather for sure.
What can I do? :)
Beautiful, Augie! Thank you for the pics!
The Vorlon and Robeson are gorgeous.
Not much. That’s why I pretty much quit starting seeds. But If I ever do, then I’ll probably just cover them with row covers, so that the air and sunshine can sort of get through, until for sure good weather, and I won’t have to uncover and cover them daily. Like I said. Lazy way or no way for me. LOL
