Normal Anorexia (vanity)
Posted on 04/23/2016 1:26:21 PM PDT by Allen In Texas Hill Country
I just don't think as fast as usual. Was drinking coffee with friends in the mall after walking the 2 miles. Joan said, look at that lady, she has anorexia. And the mind finally clicked. I realized she didn't have anorexia or if she did have anorexia the definition of anorexia really means the reasonable need of the mind to lose enough weight so that one can look like a scarecrow.
Hey,,,,,,, everyone that has anorexia is as normal as you and me no problem!!!!!!!

Anorexia is deadly serious and not to be joked about.
I know this from past experience.

Are you sure that it’s coffee that you were drinking?

I'm glad they did, a lot of people don't.
My wife works very closely with all sorts of eating disorders.
Anorexia is an especially tragic condition.

I guess I should apologize (not really) that the point missed its mark. Like way off base.
I was equating anorexia to transgenderism. If transgenderism is so damn normal,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so are ALL other mental abnormalities. </sarc>

We can’t. She refused to eat and died.
No one dies from anorexia. They die from refusing to eat.

Yes, that’s why I picked her as an example of the original poster’s ‘normal’. He should hold off posting until he can have a nice conversation with her.

I don’t have anorexia, that is certain, but I’m very thin.
I wish I could gain weight.
I get so tired of seeing ‘lose weight’ everywhere, but no advice for us thin people on gaining weight.

The human heart needs 500 calories per day to maintain proper function. Anorexia damages/weakens the heart muscle to the point that it cannot function properly. Karen Carpenter died from a heart attack at age 32.

They usually die from complications. Karen died because of taking a box of laxative pills a day, ipecac syrup which makes you throw up and damages the heart, and prescription thyroid medicine to ramp up her metabolism (probably for a boost in energy and burns away calories).
She didn't have a thyroid problem. It would be interesting to find out how she got the thyroid medication.
It seems to me anorexia took off in a big way after Twiggy started appearing on magazine covers like Seventeen. But it isn't really a "new" illness; I think Freud wrote about it. It's just that the occurrences may be higher.
