JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) A high-profile endorsement from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin couldnt deliver this state for Donald Trump as Ted Cruz won the Alaska Republican presidential preference poll.
Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, edged the national GOP front-runner in Alaska for his third win of Super Tuesday. Trump was still the nights big Republican winner with victories in seven states. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who finished third in Alaska, won one state.
The other two candidates on Tuesdays ballot in Alaska John Kasich and Ben Carson did not garner enough support to win any delegates.
The Alaska GOP reported high voter turnout that exceeded 2012 levels as thousands of Alaskans decided which of the remaining GOP presidential candidates would get their support. Party spokeswoman Suzanne Downing said in an email that volunteers manning polling sites were somewhat overwhelmed by the unbelievable turnout.
Some sites saw long lines, including the convention center that served as the lone polling location in Juneau, where dozens of people, including state legislators, lobbyists and Alaskas first lady, waited their turn to vote. First lady Donna Walker declined to say who she supported.
State Sen. John Coghill, a Republican from North Pole, wasnt shy in declaring his support for Cruz, seeing Cruz as closest to his own philosophy. He said Cruz and Rubio but Cruz especially seem to be more supportive of states rights. Coghill is among the state legislators who have been concerned about federal overreach. He said he would support whomever the Republican nominee winds up being.

Guess even Alaska is tired of her antics.
Sarah, the Sharkmobile is waiting for you out by the loading dock.
Delegate wise it was a split, not really a victory rally, Cruz got 12, Trump 11 delegates, i fail to see it as a decisive loss or win for either.
Cruz won 12 delegates, Trump won 11 and Rubio won five.
Not much of a win for Cruz!!!!
That’s 316 Trump, 226 Cruz now
You OBVIOUSLY missed the Delegate count in Alaska.
Cruz got 12
Trump got 11
Game over man game over!
Congrats to Ted for getting one more delegate in Alaska then Trump. Does being a puppet of big oil help in some states? For example, maybe, Texas, Alaska & Oklahoma. Cruz needed to sweep the South. He failed big time.
Alaska Dems switched over for the night to vote against Trump as per CNN. This may work in the primary but not the general. So actually Palin’s endorsement was working.
Unless you had some kind of unrealistic expectation that Trump would take all the delegates, it’s just as expected. Big nothingburger.
And Palin’s endorsement carries weight across the country, not just in her home state.
I just wonder why Cruz is worshipped as a “true conservative” yet Palin is routinely bashed on FR even though there’s hardly an iota of different between their positions on any conservative issue.
If you just plain think Ted is smarter or something that’s fine but why not just leave Sarah Palin alone?
Typical Trumpnutter spin. Cruz won the caucus period.
It’s like eveything else with you Kool-Aid drinkers in your deluded little world...Up is down, left is right and oh the pretty colors there.
Just the logistics of holding caucuses in Alaska
has to be mind-boggling.
That is one way of looking at it. Another way of looking at it is this, Cruz won in spite of not having Sarah Palin’s endorsement. He very likely would have won by more if she endorsed him instead of Trump.
and thats as close as cruz will get
Congrads to Cruz! The voter quoted here clearly and smartly realized Trump is a big government liberal RINO.
LOL! If it had been Trump 12, Cruz 11, we’d have already seen the all caps posts telling us Cruz was a “loser” and other associated nonsense.
I’ve talked to more than a few conservatives from Alaska who weren’t really impressed with her.
I think the article is more about Palin that Trump/Cruz.
Trump’s shilling for taxpayer funding of ethanol didn’t help him in Iowa.
