Sarah Palin endorsement fails as Ted Cruz beats Donald Trump to win Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A high-profile endorsement from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin couldn’t deliver this state for Donald Trump as Ted Cruz won the Alaska Republican presidential preference poll.

Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, edged the national GOP front-runner in Alaska for his third win of Super Tuesday. Trump was still the night’s big Republican winner with victories in seven states. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who finished third in Alaska, won one state.

The other two candidates on Tuesday’s ballot in Alaska — John Kasich and Ben Carson — did not garner enough support to win any delegates.

The Alaska GOP reported high voter turnout that exceeded 2012 levels as thousands of Alaskans decided which of the remaining GOP presidential candidates would get their support. Party spokeswoman Suzanne Downing said in an email that volunteers manning polling sites were somewhat overwhelmed by the “unbelievable” turnout.

Some sites saw long lines, including the convention center that served as the lone polling location in Juneau, where dozens of people, including state legislators, lobbyists and Alaska’s first lady, waited their turn to vote. First lady Donna Walker declined to say who she supported.

State Sen. John Coghill, a Republican from North Pole, wasn’t shy in declaring his support for Cruz, seeing Cruz as closest to his own philosophy. He said Cruz and Rubio — but Cruz especially — seem to be more supportive of states’ rights. Coghill is among the state legislators who have been concerned about federal overreach. He said he would support whomever the Republican nominee winds up being.

“Cruz won 12 delegates, Trump won 11 and Rubio won five.”

Exactly. It is about delegates. All Trump has to do is win 50% of the delegates from here on in and he wins the delegate count.

It does not work like that.

The winner gets the delegates.

“Congrats to Ted for getting one more delegate in Alaska then Trump. Does being a puppet of big oil help in some states? For example, maybe, Texas, Alaska & Oklahoma. Cruz needed to sweep the South. He failed big time.”

Possibly Trump was hurt in Alaska by his non-conservative big nanny government stance on federally owned and controlled state land.

Delegate wise it was a split, not really a victory rally, Cruz got 12, Trump 11 delegates, i fail to see it as a decisive loss or win for either.

Yet the same could be said of many of Trump’s victories.

But that is different I suppose.

Thanks For the Ping conservative98!

Ping to Sarah's Amazing List.

Ummm....The Delegates went 12 for Cruz, 11 for Trump.

So.... yeah, close with a one up for Cruz.

I should have written down the Delegate count before Super Tuesday, I bet the Ratio between Trump and Cruz is still the same XD

Typical Trumpnutter spin. Cruz won the caucus period. It’s like eveything else with you Kool-Aid drinkers in your deluded little world...Up is down, left is right and oh the pretty colors there.

Way over the top. . .dude. . Alaska is fraught with RINO establishment types. . .remember how Murkowski became senator? Cruz can run the table from here. . .but if he only picks up one more delegate per. ..HE'S TOAST. . .We're deluded? . ..look at the scoreboard, bud. ..Trump 316 Cruz 226. .. trash talk in the first quarter. . .not in the 3rd when you're down by 90

I have never been impressed by Sarah Palin - she has been an opportunist from the get-go.

Accepting a VP slot with John McCain showed questionable judgment, but I realized what her game was when she began arriving at various in-progress conservative rallies to offer her support before the cameras.

When Cruz was gaining media attention, Sarah Palin was happy to offer her support. She especially supported Cruz (in front of the media) during the government shut-down.

But come time for the primaries, trump was the one who had the prerequisite media crew, so of course, Sarah was there to support trump.

Interesting.

Not that it matters to Trump supporters. They dismissed the fact that Ted Cruz won a straw poll in NY after “insulting” New Yorkers by using the phrase “New York values” to refer to the state’s liberal climate.

There seems to be a lot of bashing of conservatives on this site lately. Just mention Sean Hannity and you get an earful from many people on here. The same thing seems to be happening when Sarah is mentioned.

I was the BIGGEST of Sarah Palin supporters. NO MORE. That’s what I get for holding up any politician as an example. Rest assured, I will never do it again. Took me 48 years to learn that lesson, but I learned it good and hard.

>> I’ve noticed she vanished from the campaign trail <<

Thanks to her initial stream-of-consciousness speech, Trump may have decided that she flunked her audition — voted her off the island, so to speak.

So now The Donald’s new “apprentice” is Gov. Christie.

But Chris looked so uncomfortable last night that he may be trembling with fear for his place in the Trump Organization. Reality TV is, after all, a tough business.

Everything I need to know about Ted Cruz was evident in his speech last night, the man is sleazy and a congenital liar.

The polls showed Trump winning big in Alaska (+10%) and that didn’t happen. Trying to spin it otherwise doesn’t wash. There may be some there there, or it may be just a blip. Time will tell.

A straw poll of party hacks.

...." why not just leave Sarah Palin alone?"....

Because she screwed up and supports Democrats. Trump is a Dem, supports Dems, and gives money to Dem causes. Any thoughts that she was a conservative was blown with her support of a NYC liberal.

If you support the second amendment, try to imagine " I support the Brady Bill" coming from your lips. Same with "I support Planned Parenthood". How about I'm neutral on Israel. How about giving money to Hillary and Bill and inviting them to social functions?

These are not mistakes, but reflect how he really feels. What we are working towards is a race with one Dem against another Dem. This is EXACTLY what people are angry about, but are too politically illiterate to see.

I fear what Trump voters are going to do when they see Trump makes his deals with Pelosi and Reid and sells America down the river. It's coming as sure as his morning crap every day. Palin and the others will slink back into their corners and we will be stuck another 4 years. Frankly, we don't have another 4 years. With the SCOTUS open, $19 trillion in debt, and the ME burning, America doesn't have 4 more years. Cruz is the "Reagan" candidate we have been looking for and we are too stupid to recognize it. They don't come up every day.

Please point us to a thread where that has happened in ANY of the SEC states that Cruz supporters have insisted he’d win.
TIA

I think the article is more about Palin that Trump/Cruz.

Don't you know that on FR EVERYTHING is about Trump/Cruz. Even threads about Palin. I hardly even bother to read threads anymore. FR has devolved into a version of DU. It's awful.

Yeah, he Lied through his teeth, and he was sleazy doing it, as I ever saw a sleazy politician at work.

Example: Trump wants to destroy the 2nd Amendment.
