Sarah Palin endorsement fails as Ted Cruz beats Donald Trump to win Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A high-profile endorsement from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin couldn’t deliver this state for Donald Trump as Ted Cruz won the Alaska Republican presidential preference poll.

Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, edged the national GOP front-runner in Alaska for his third win of Super Tuesday. Trump was still the night’s big Republican winner with victories in seven states. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who finished third in Alaska, won one state.

The other two candidates on Tuesday’s ballot in Alaska — John Kasich and Ben Carson — did not garner enough support to win any delegates.

The Alaska GOP reported high voter turnout that exceeded 2012 levels as thousands of Alaskans decided which of the remaining GOP presidential candidates would get their support. Party spokeswoman Suzanne Downing said in an email that volunteers manning polling sites were somewhat overwhelmed by the “unbelievable” turnout.

Some sites saw long lines, including the convention center that served as the lone polling location in Juneau, where dozens of people, including state legislators, lobbyists and Alaska’s first lady, waited their turn to vote. First lady Donna Walker declined to say who she supported.

State Sen. John Coghill, a Republican from North Pole, wasn’t shy in declaring his support for Cruz, seeing Cruz as closest to his own philosophy. He said Cruz and Rubio — but Cruz especially — seem to be more supportive of states’ rights. Coghill is among the state legislators who have been concerned about federal overreach. He said he would support whomever the Republican nominee winds up being.

Ted Cruz endorsement fails as Ted Cruz fails to win more than 50% of the vote in Texas

Funny. Not to mention all the decent endorsements he had, like the governor. Guess they couldn't turn a Canadian pig's ear into a silk purse.

FR discussions about the GOP primary candidates have become nasty and uninformative. I'm starting to wonder if some of the posters are really just DailyKOS'ers.

I'll be happy when Trump or Cruz become President-elect and FR can go back to being a place for useful info and fewer flying knives.

But Chris looked so uncomfortable last night that he may be trembling with fear for his place in the Trump Organization. Reality TV is, after all, a tough business.

He'd better stay in D.C. The outcry from his sell out to his supporters and backers is overwhelming in his home state. They want his political head.

He teed it up for them when he Lied to multiple Newspapers to get their Endorsements then chased after Donald like a 7th grade school girl with a crush.

Go Ted Cruz! Go Donald Trump!

If the people spending half their energy tearing-down either of the Republican frontrunners would concentrate their efforts on defeating Hillary we would be in much better shape.

Example: Trump wants to destroy the 2nd Amendment.

True or false, Donald J. tRumpf openly supported the AWB signed into law by Bill Clinton?

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT Sorry, YES HE DID. Donnie thinks only those HE approves of and the types he approves of should have guns. Thanks for playing. A parting gift awaits you at the Lindsey Graham For President table. Feel free to grab a hand full of the swag....

Exactly. When Trump loses it's all about the delegates.

What happened to the 2nd is actually better than 1st. That dominated the news before last night.

There were so many stories here claiming that in order to win you had to take second cr@p.

The winner gets the delegates.

Not in every state. This is a well organized disaster designed to place the GOPe choice in a position to win it all.

The weeding out process begins in ernest when the winner take all states have their primary.

If Palin’s endorsement for Trump didn’t put him on top in her own state, I have to question if her endorsement has been a positive for Trump anywhere else. Perhaps her relevance as a king maker is history.

It was History when she hitched her wagon to the likes of John McCrazy, Kelly Ayotte and Nikki Haley.

I never said Cruz will win the nomination so work on your reading comprehension.

I said he won Alaska period. The delusion you Trumpophiles suffer from is not that Trump will win the nomination,he very well may, it’s the limbic driven cultlike dedication you all have to an extremely flawed candidate.

3 points is a win, but it isn’t like Cruz crushed Trump.

Her endorsement didn’t hurt Trump.

Now, I’d like to hear Trump ASSURE us that he will nominate a justice close to or similar to Scalia.

Maybe we could have some assurance that Cruz can actually accomplish that. Over the years I doubt if 50% of GOP appointed Justices were actually conservative, in fact GOP have appointed some of the worst.

It will have to be either Donald Trump or Senator Ted Cruz to win the White House because to have a Hillary or even a Bernie would be the start of the end of the USA.

TRUE! A VOICE OF REASON.

Sarah’s ABRUPT WITHDRAWAL FROM THE RACE THEN , SURPRISED ME SO COMPLETELY. STILL DO NOT KNOW THE CAUSE. POSSIBLY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY LEADERS SAID THEY WOULD NOT SUPPORT HER? WHO KNOWS?

SARAH’S SMART AND I HOPE SHE WILL STAY ACTIVE AND INVOLED IN AMERICA’S CONSERVATIVE PARTY. NOT MANY WOMEN HAVE A VOICE IN POLITICS.

I'm fairly certain I could talk to a few people you know and hear they weren't really impressed with you. Sarah knows thousands; there will always be detractors.

Reagan did not impress every conservative, either. Again, out of all the people you know, I will find those that don't think much of you, too.

I just wonder why Cruz is worshipped as a “true conservative” yet Palin is routinely bashed on FR even though there’s hardly an iota of different between their positions on any conservative issue.

Palin endorsed Sen Juan McCain (RINO from AZ) and Trump (Democr..., Repub..., Reform, Democr..., Repub..., Conserv...wait - which way is the wind blowing today? from NY).

Yeah, kinda hard to figure out.
