Sarah Palin endorsement fails as Ted Cruz beats Donald Trump to win Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A high-profile endorsement from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin couldn’t deliver this state for Donald Trump as Ted Cruz won the Alaska Republican presidential preference poll.

Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, edged the national GOP front-runner in Alaska for his third win of Super Tuesday. Trump was still the night’s big Republican winner with victories in seven states. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who finished third in Alaska, won one state.

The other two candidates on Tuesday’s ballot in Alaska — John Kasich and Ben Carson — did not garner enough support to win any delegates.

The Alaska GOP reported high voter turnout that exceeded 2012 levels as thousands of Alaskans decided which of the remaining GOP presidential candidates would get their support. Party spokeswoman Suzanne Downing said in an email that volunteers manning polling sites were somewhat overwhelmed by the “unbelievable” turnout.

Some sites saw long lines, including the convention center that served as the lone polling location in Juneau, where dozens of people, including state legislators, lobbyists and Alaska’s first lady, waited their turn to vote. First lady Donna Walker declined to say who she supported.

State Sen. John Coghill, a Republican from North Pole, wasn’t shy in declaring his support for Cruz, seeing Cruz as closest to his own philosophy. He said Cruz and Rubio — but Cruz especially — seem to be more supportive of states’ rights. Coghill is among the state legislators who have been concerned about federal overreach. He said he would support whomever the Republican nominee winds up being.

About the only one I think who never let us down was the late great Jesse Helms; NC has had nothing like him since.

By his size and population distribution, AK is one of the hardest states in which to conduct a political poll.

The “winner” would be trumpeting (sorry, no pun intended) victory and a runner up with a 1 delegate difference would be downplaying the win no matter the name associated with it.

Mistake Tina Fey for Palin? It’s because Tina Fey was so dead on accurate, even I for a few moments thought they actually landed Palin for the endorsement skit. I even mentioned to my wife that they actually got Palin to do the skit.

I agree. My post was not a comment about polling, but more about those who place absolute faith in them....including the candidates.

“I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within 72-hours if a potential gun owner has a record.

Sorry, you can’t support an assault weapons ban and claim to NOT be anti-gun!

net gain ONE delegate over trump.

cruz failed to have >50% votes and take all of texas. That is his BEST state.

He does win the “hold nose” over Hillary prize.

but that is “meh.”

Trump has been a politician.....this one time and has how many state wins?

If Palin’s endorsement for Trump didn’t put him on top in her own state, I have to question if her endorsement has been a positive for Trump anywhere else. Perhaps her relevance as a king maker is history.

It's sad that some have completely turned on Palin due to a mostly emotional attachment to their candidate.

I'll remind those that without Palin, there likely wouldn't have been a Tea Party movement.

We need a plan B, and Cruz is it. FR shouldn’t be tearing him down.

Jesse Helms was the best of the best.

I’d give anything if we had leaders like him around today. But with the pathetic state of our modern culture and our modern generations, I no longer think it is possible.

Congrats to Ted for getting one more delegate in Alaska then Trump. Does being a puppet of big oil help in some states? For example, maybe, Texas, Alaska & Oklahoma. Cruz needed to sweep the South. He failed big time.

Nice, here let me reciprocate...Donnie is a Ethanol prostitute!

A big Business crony Capitalist. You can bet the minute he gets in to office he will become best friends with Agricorps., Chicken producers and the Head of the COC.

If he will import cheap labor for cutting his grass, making beds and cleaning his pools at his resorts tell me why he would fight Agiricorps., Chicken Producers and Construction firms doing the same?

You aren't living in reality if you think he will.

Ted Cruz endorsement fails as Ted Cruz fails to win more than 50% of the vote in Texas

Absolutely concur with your post. Too many folks watching Saturday Night Live. Governor Sarah Palin is a true patriot who genuinely loves our beloved country. Many people (actually) mistakenly believe Tina Fey is Sarah Palin. How sad.

Perhaps if she didn't talk and act like the goofy character Tina Fey plays it would help?

Trump was the plan B... now Cruz is plan B.

And you're right duckin, we need to take a deep breath and remember the true enemy is Hillary Clinton - followed closely by the GOPe.
