If Your Child Behaved Like Donald Trump Would You Be OK With It? (This op-ed belongs in News)
Townhall.com ^ | February 29, 2016 | Kimberly Fletcher

As Super Tuesday draws near and Americans from 12 different states choose their candidate, I want to make one final plea to my friends, fellow tea partiers, patriots, conservatives, and Christians, who will be voting on Super Tuesday.

I know you're tired of losing. I am too. I know it feels good to have someone voicing our frustrations and be heard for a change. I know it feels like voting for Trump will send the establishment, the media, and everyone who has ignored us for the past eight years a powerful message. I know it feels good to finally feel like we can win. But please, for one moment, before you mark ballot, consider what we're winning. And ask yourself, if your child behaved like Donald Trump would you be okay with it?

Before you jump on the "You're just a Trump-basher" bandwagon, I ask you, as one of you, to please hear me out.

I know how frustrated you are. I've been on the frontlines of freedom fighting this fight for 16 years—a mere fraction of the years many of my friends have spent—and I can assure you, we are extremely frustrated. I was thrilled in 2009 when the liberty movement emerged and so many Americans became engaged. It was absolutely exhilarating to see Americans start to search their history and study the Constitution. The National Center for Constitutional Studies has been teaching Constitution Seminars for decades. I only needed 30 people to hold one but I couldn't ever find enough people interested. In the fall of 2009 I had 200 people sign up—and a waiting list, because 200 was all the room would hold. I hosted several more seminars after that including one in the Ohio State Capital building for State Legislators. It was energizing and inspiring. And while I loved seeing rallies overflowing and rooms filled to capacity, I knew it was only a matter of time before people started going back to their lives and stop paying attention again.

It's not a criticism; it is just a fact of life. We all have families, jobs and obligations. We don't have time to march on D.C. every time our elected leaders ignore us. And really, what good does it do when we take time out of our lives and money out of our checkbooks to fly to Washington D.C. by the hundreds of thousands –twice—and are still ignored?

So now, after putting our hope in the Supreme Court—only to be disappointed; and then in the 2012 election—only to get Barack Obama for four more years, we find ourselves angry, frustrated, fed up—and putting all our hopes in one man. Though I know you neither want to hear it nor believe it, if you put all your hope in Donald Trump, I assure you, you will be disappointed once again. The tyranny and oppression in our country is too wide and too deep for one person to fix it—no matter how loud or aggressive they are. Our state legislatures, city councils and school boards are just as bad, sometimes worse, but we completely ignore them. An election cannot make America great again. Donald Trump cannot make America great again.

Only you and I can make America great. So I have to ask again, if your child behaved the way Donald Trump does, would you be okay with that?

Would you be okay if your son called a girl ugly? Would you be okay if your child used vulgar language, made fun of other people or behaved rudely? Do you want your children to grow up thinking the measure of a person's worth is how much money they make? Do you want them growing up believing something is only worth fighting for when you win? Do you want your child to be popular no matter how they gain their popularity or do you want them to be a good person even if it means they stand alone?

We are sending a message to our children folks. They are watching us. What message does it send our children when we say it's okay to vote for someone who is rude, abrasive and vulgar as long it's directed toward someone we're mad at?

What message does it send our children when we support someone who says, "I could shoot somebody and wouldn't lose any voters."

What message does it send our children when we vote for someone who publically and unapologetically cheated on his wife, uses vulgar, degrading language, and openly advocates a sexually immoral lifestyle?

Rebecca Hagelin wrote an excellent article on Townhall.com addressing Donald Trump's promotion of the porn industry in his hotels, his playboy behavior and his current wife's nude modeling.

"That's right,” says Hagelin, "if the GOP continues down this path of madness we will have a presidential nominee that degrades women, has bragged about his adultery, has made money off of strip tease shows, and a First Lady that has posed totally nude."

What message are we sending our children when this is who we are supporting? What message are we sending when we ignore everything we know to be true simply because we want to win for a change?

The people we elect are a representation of who we are ourselves. Is this really who we want to represent us to the world? Is this really who we have become as a people?

Neil Postman said, "Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see." What message are we sending?

If you would not be okay with your children behaving the way Donald Trump does then why would we want him to be our president?

Heaven help us if this is the message we decide to send our children.

I understand your view, but there over 54,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen and civilians killed in Southeast Asia. Not all of them had the financial influence to receive a 4-F deferment. Marching against the war like Sanders or the Clintons, act of treason like Jane Fonda are to me no different than buying a 4-F deferment.

Ironically, I kept my own counsel, regarding Trump, for many months.

I have, however, see the incredible vitriol thrown at Trump supporters.

It is *not* their fault Ted is doing so poorly.

And personally, I would not beg you to spit on me, if I were on fire.

I don’t “beg” anyone, except God.

I have dear friends here who support Ted and I’m happy to oblige their choice.

I have yet to see them act like sanctimonious jerks about it.

If Your Child Behaved Like Donald Trump Would You Be OK With It?

If my son, say, behaved like Donald Trump, and was the frontrunner for the GOP nomination for the office of President of the United States, I'd probably cut him some slack and be OK with it, because I'd know that his heart is in the right place and he love his country and only wants what's best for it...

Agreed!

I picture Trump's first PM SOTUS canceled to be and rescheduled for 7 AM the same day. Only the Congress is to attend. The speech starts out with a horrific scolding for allowing the National Debt to grow to $20 Trillion and for not restructuring the entitlement programs.

He then announces the immediate closing of dozens of agencies and massive layoffs of civil employees (I do feel for those employees). He then demands an audit of all welfare programs and demands the termination of duplicate programs. He then passes out his tax plan with a proposed schedule with the goal to have it passed by June 1, 2017. He then announces the building of the wall to begin on federally owned land starting February 1, 2017.

He then demands a 100 page balanced budget ASAP.

He then introduces his liaisons who will meet daily with the Congressional leaders.

He then shakes everyones’ hands and departs.

“Actually dear friend, Mr Trump received 4 (that’s right, four) deferments. He was eventually classified as 1-A, took his induction physical, and reclassified as 4-F (medically unfit)”

Trump’s deferments were four successive 2-S student deferments, which every college student could receive. It was the most common deferment during the Vietnam war and could be renewed as long as you were in school. Four deferments was typical.

When Trump graduated in 1968 he was reclassified 1-A, then 1-Y, where he remained until 1972. 1-Y means you are suitable for callup in a national emergency.

When Trump went through the draft lottery he received 356, high enough that short of a major war he wasn’t going to receive a notice.

What message were you sending when you allowed Bill Clinton to skate, but took out Newt Gingrich?

When Gingrich got replaced a step or two later by Denny Hastert, who got removed for structuring what were rumored to be hush money payments to a teenage *boy* he molested?

What message were you sending when, after letting Clinton skate, you allowed your GOP nominee to be shoo'ed off the stage with manufactured outrage over "binders full of women"?

What message were you sending when you bent over for eight years to a rumored closeted homosexual Muslim whose initiation to the Chicago machine was at the hands of a person who admitted he had bombed US citizens, who attended a church whose preacher shouted "God Damn America!" from the pulpit, and when you didn't hound the Dem front-runner out of office for allowing above-top-secret materials to be handled on an openly explicitly illegal private server to the point that a teenaged Bulgarian hacker found them?

Sod OFF, swampy.

Understood. I empathize with your point of view.

For me the $20 Trillion National Debt and tens of billions of unfunded liabilities is a great threat to our future and I don't trust career politicians and the establishment to solve those problems. They have not to date. Paul Ryan is a huge disappointment. If that is the best we can do, we are pretty much dead as a world power.
