Trump Stumbles But Voters Don't Count Him Out Yet (New YouGov Poll)
YouGov ^ | 2/6/2016

Once confident Donald Trump would win the nomination, Republicans are now split between three candidates

Last week Ted Cruz notched an unexpected victory in the Iowa Caucuses - and now voters have a very different view of Donald Trump's chances in the Republican primary, according to a new HuffPost/YouGov poll.

Importantly, voters are not ready to count Donald Trump out. Two-thirds of likely Republican primary voters describe his second-place finish in Iowa as more of a "temporary setback" than a sign of serious trouble for his campaign. 54% expect Trump to win the New Hampshire primary, where he remains ahead according to recent polls.

But when asked who is most likely to win the primary overall, only 27% of Republicans cite Trump, down 30 points from a poll conducted just days before caucus night. 29% now expect Marco Rubio to be the nominee, following the Florida senator's surprisingly strong finish in Iowa. Last week, only 9% thought Rubio was most likely to win. Expectations for Ted Cruz, at 24%, are slightly behind Rubio and Trump. No other candidate is higher than 2%.

>> I’ve listened to him promote ‘legal status’, over and over. <<

Listening to his enemies select sound bites to feed to you is not listening to him. Cruz opposes legal status. He argued that immigration reform was needed, but that the Gang of Eight bill was bad. And he exposed that the Gang of Eight had no interest in making it better by proposing an amendment that would make it less bad.

Everything he said was true:

Did he want comprehensive immigration reform? Yes.

Did he believe substituting legal status for citizenship would make it more likely to pass? Yes.

Did he believe substituting legal status for citizenship would make it better? Yes.

But...

Did he vote against the gang of Eight bill? Yes.

Did he also press for amendments to remove any legal status at all? Yes.

Did he also demand to end birthright citizenship? Yes.

Did he also demand to make the green cards temporary? Yes.

Did he also demand that no legalization would occur until after the border was sealed? Yes.

Did he also explain that immigration hurts U.S workers and perpetuates poverty? Yes.

Did he also support findings that the Gang of Eight bill would transfer a trillion dollars from the poor to the rich, and add another trillion dollars to the debt? Yes.

Now lets look at Trump:

Does he demand illegal immigrants be deported? Yes.

But does he say that he will put them in the front of the line to come right back in as legal immigrants? Yes.

Did he give massive campaign contributions to the people supporting the Gang of Eight, including McConnell and Clinton? Yes.

Did he say a peep to stop the Gang of Eight amnesty? No.

Cruz says whatever he thinks will work.

He’s a typical dirty politician.

Iowa proved that.

Dear dunce,

The word “wages” IS “minimum wage”. LOL!! Not saleries, not benefits, but “wages” are minimum wage.

hello? Anybody home?

For the small business Trump is seeing state’s raising minimum wage to $15 per hour.

Small business is laying off because the margin is to small between making payroll at that rate and ability to stay in business and survive.

Get the picture?

Ask small business about high “wages”, especially with a bunch of dang kids beginning their first job, if they are for high “wages”.

TRUMP is saving your job, dearest.

Oh, BTW, a video of Cruz saying he is for legal status is pretty damning. His own words, just 2 years ago.

Cry supporters are losing their principles - and denying facts.

He lied in Iowa to get votes.
He was for legs status.

You can spin but nothing takes those truths away.

If he would be honest and say he changed his position - that’s more believable. Or if he had retracted that Carson was ending his campaign before Iowa voting was over (when CNN retracted it and when Mrs. Carson corrected a Cruz staff member during a caucus), then I’d belive it was accidental.

The split? Trump 35%, not far off from the next four candidates combined. #2 is Kasich, #3 is Jebbie — not Cruz, not Rubio.
