The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won't be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Taking advantage of the nice weather to get some walking done and outdoor work done. Predicted to be nice through Tuesday, so I hope to tackle some more patio cleanup and garden clean up. Will soon be time to start seeds and plant taters. Yipeeeeeee!
Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
Pining the List.
too cold here in the Northern climes but I did score a very large load of wood chips which I (we) eventually will put between my garden boxes as weed deterrent...
It has been cool here at night dropping down to the low 70’s. My banana plants dropped their flowers because they require a temperature of 84 degrees or higher.
But we are going to have 100’s of pounds of papaya
Could Spring be on it’s way?
What will the groundhog say?
Good news...I made an offer on a nice little mobile home with some land around it that I can garden.
Of course, right now it is covered with snow.
We’ve gotten huge cauliflowers and broccoli out this week. with longer days the rest of the winter crop is really starting to take off.
Question about veggies that might grow in a shaded spot.
I have a nice raised bed in front of my house. Faces south. It had beautiful shrubs in it that were killed by the last two Winters. Beautiful soil. Problem is, there’s a very big soft Maple in front of it that shades it all but a couple hours in the morning and evening. Are the any veggies that will grow in those conditions?
It’s been mostly above freezing here in Massachusetts during the day. I still have only six seeds in pots in the kitchen. I need to get to that, but my almost 14 year old dog is having some problems. I’d like to get her through the winter so that she can be laid to rest with the two others that she grew up with.
I like the idea! Johnny, Marcella, and Rightly really made the garden thread entertaining and fun especially when Marcella was just beginning. LOL
Good to go for papaya! Seems strange to here 70 described as cool. I am calling our 50s and 60s warm right now. LOL
This is our usual mid winter break - designed to fool the plants-especially peaches to think it’s Spring. Then when little buds begin, zap with the snain, sleet, and snow.
The ground hog won’t say nothing if someone stops up the hole or shoots him first, as our local hillbillies like to say.
Great news, but are you sure you want to stay where there’s snow? LOL

The garden thread is about to get a lot more interesting - it’s that time of the year! Is anyone else experiencing super slow response when posting, or is it my service provider or maybe even my computer?
Does anyone know how to prune and transplant a plumeria?
I have several that have been in pots for years and need to be trimmed back. I do not know where to trim and the whole process involved.
Thank you in advance.
5Somebody’s got to make Massachusetts a Conservative State...perhaps I can help.
Wonderful! Thank you! I mostly cook Chinese home-style, and Bok Choy, or Shanghai Choi are perfect for me! Great!
Bok Choy is delicious.
