Taking advantage of the nice weather to get some walking done and outdoor work done. Predicted to be nice through Tuesday, so I hope to tackle some more patio cleanup and garden clean up. Will soon be time to start seeds and plant taters. Yipeeeeeee!
Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
Pining the List.
It has been cool here at night dropping down to the low 70’s. My banana plants dropped their flowers because they require a temperature of 84 degrees or higher.
But we are going to have 100’s of pounds of papaya
Good news...I made an offer on a nice little mobile home with some land around it that I can garden.
Of course, right now it is covered with snow.
We’ve gotten huge cauliflowers and broccoli out this week. with longer days the rest of the winter crop is really starting to take off.
Question about veggies that might grow in a shaded spot.
I have a nice raised bed in front of my house. Faces south. It had beautiful shrubs in it that were killed by the last two Winters. Beautiful soil. Problem is, there’s a very big soft Maple in front of it that shades it all but a couple hours in the morning and evening. Are the any veggies that will grow in those conditions?
It’s been mostly above freezing here in Massachusetts during the day. I still have only six seeds in pots in the kitchen. I need to get to that, but my almost 14 year old dog is having some problems. I’d like to get her through the winter so that she can be laid to rest with the two others that she grew up with.
Does anyone know how to prune and transplant a plumeria?
I have several that have been in pots for years and need to be trimmed back. I do not know where to trim and the whole process involved.
Thank you in advance.
What happened to justadumbblonde?
The 16 inches of snow we got is in the process of melting. It started Friday morning of last week at 10 a.m. & continued until late Saturday night. Sunday was “dig out” day - I moved so much snow I ended up with a blister on one hand. Since the big tractor wouldn’t start (of course!), a relative ran his SUV around the driveway (300’) Sunday to make tracks. By yesterday, we finally had enough gravel showing in the tracks to get out. Whew.
The fields/yard still have a lot of snow, especially where it drifted. The weekend should be “warm” & maybe even close to 70 next week so that should take care of the snow ...... and leave us with mud. At least we don’t have livestock any more - the ground would really be a mess.
I keep looking at the raised beds and dreaming of April, when I can finally start working the soil & maybe get some plants out.
If I’m home on a Saturday morning, listening to Andre Viette’s “In the Garden” radio show while enjoying a cup of coffee is one of my ‘favorite things’. After listening to Andre, you want to run out to the garden and do something .... anything!

Another beautiful spring like day here, the hamburgers will soon be on the grill! I spent most of the day planting 500 more tomatoes and 250 different peppers in the greenhouse. As soon as seed potatoes arrive at the Farmers Cooperative I will use what little space left in the greenhouse and begin chitting them (bringing them out of winter dormancy).
The new greenhouse arrived last week on an tractor trailer, the pole boxes were so heavy they had to be opened and unloaded individually, The driver was not happy. hope to have it up and operational by the 3rd week of February.
Not much in the way of gardening going on at my place right now.
Still working on machinery prep for the upcoming commercial tomato endeavor. Box scraper is out of the shop, 1950 Farmall model C tractor is in the shop for a fuel system overhaul, ignition system tune-up, and some wiring harness repair.
Totally unrelated, #1 Marine daughter Leah made a surprise visit home, and will be here through the 7th. Sneaky sneaky.
