Paul Kantner, one of the giants of the San Francisco music scene, died Thursday, Jan. 28, of multiple organ failure. Mr. Kantner, founding member of the Jefferson Airplane, was 74 and had suffered a heart attack earlier this week.

You can probably tell a lot about a person when they’re facing that situation. Some adore it, others keep shrieking “me me MEEEEE”.
YEah. Scary. Had a kid like that across the street. His brother became starting qb for Mizzou and mother became Lieutenant Gov of MO. But that one kid... ugh. His brother was kind of an @sshole as well.

I doubt too many are going to make it to 80. I was surprised Kantner even made it to 74 -- although, technically, he was not a Baby Boomer. The oldest BB, in fact, would be 70. I see a lot of BBs dying in their 60s -- including my older brother, who dropped dead at work at the age of 61.
Kanter was 74, average US male life expectancy is 76.
Good stuff there - my mind left my body a few times back then.

Saw him in concert last summer. He looked sick and tired then. He couldn’t stand to play; he sat on a big amp the whole time. Sad, though; he was very talented.
Kantner was also part of Starship.
Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Scotty Moore, and Fats Domino are all still around.
Both of those were Great Society songs that Grace Slick took with her (written/co-written by Darby Slick) when she joined Jefferson Airplane.

My wife’s dad had 7 siblings. Most of them drank too much for too many years, some also smoked. With 2 exceptions they all lived into their late 80s and 90s. One died 3 weeks after her 100th birthday last year. Prostate cancer got my FIL at 75 (he had an enlarged heart and was supposed to die in his 30s). One brother had a heart attack in his 60s.
